Hello everyone. We are planning a trip to a city in Europe with many beautiful/interesting sites to photograph. Unfortunately, the city is also known for pickpockets. I'm looking for a camera bag that is compact, will hold an adequate amount of gear*, and is specifically designed to discourage thieves. Can you recommend a product that is reasonably priced (less than $100)?

* DSLR plus 24-120 and 16-35 lenses. Would love to include my 70-200 as well but don't know if it will fit. Definitely need space for essential accessories (filters, spare battery, memory card, etc.).

The first European city I thought about was Paris. Was I right?

Look up Locktote.com or maybe Loctote.com, (not sure about spelling or the sizes)

Above was the first time I heard to use a baby's diaper bag. That makes sence except most pickpockets I heard of are kids, not all but most.

The reason, (in Paris at least), is that underage kids will most likely not be prosecuted. Then they deliver the goods to an older person. Sort of like a pimp.

Have a good time and do like the cop sais above, be watchful.

My body is a Canon 5D Mark II. Yes, I can bring both lenses. I will try them both out ahead of time. The lighting should be fairly good, it's in a university gym. I know exactly what to expect (been doing this 7 years), I just really wanted to borrow a 70-200 2.8 since I don't have one. I was able to borrow the 70-200 f4 instead. I just don't know if f4 is fast enough. I normally do portrait photography, so another question: should I turn off the Image Stabilization? Also, shoot in high jpeg instead of RAW, correct?

Figure this to be similar to covering a basketball game.

Why would you ever think of not using stabilization?

Do use raw. The only reason I can see for jpeg only would be if your planning something like wifi to someone in a hurry, or going to be doing an excessive amount of machine gun shooting.

I'm taking photos at a black belt exam this saturday. I have a Canon 70-200 f4 and a Canon 24-70 f2.8. The event is indoors. Which lens would you choose?

Mid range 2.8, definitely!

I know most of us shoot RAW when we want the very best photograph but I’m wondering what y’all do for events that will be 500-1000 photos taken. I have been getting into race day photography (Running) where your basically documenting the event and the crazy faces you can catch at the finish line. The last two I shot RAW but I’m really considering switching to JPG for these just to save time processing. What do y’all shoot similar things in?

What if you shoot that "one in a million" photo? If you go to jpeg only, too bad!

Z7 Nikon. 80-400mm lens at 80mm. ISO1250, f11, 1/200s. Morning light.
A portion of the fishing rod and especially the fluorocarbon line, enlarged and translucent.
Can someone explain?

I aggree with others, it's out of focus for one.

For two, the line is made to defuse light so it will be nearly impossible to see when underwater.

For the third reason, it is reflecting onto parts of the rod. That and the other reasons equals what you now see.

Good news. I finally found a charger unit and it just a simple 12vdc charger.

Thanks for your support everyone!

The Bowens xmt500 strobe contains a lithium ion battery. Are you certain that the travel pack was intended for this unit? From the photos and info available, the travel pack appears to use lead acid batteries. If true, the voltages are NOT the same. Have you used the travel pack with your heads? I would confirm everything with Bowens. You DO NOT want to charge lithium ion batteries with a lead acid battery no matter how it was charged.

My strobes are the old style esprit Gemini GM500 by Bowens. They were made it the analog dials which are NOT the digital type.

The older battery pack is the Travelpak with lead acid battery. Data I've come across doesn't indicate what charge power voltage is used. I might need to do some reverse engineering to end up making a plugin charger unless someone knows for sure what it is.

Again, my problem is that I do not have a charger at this time.

The model numbers match up to use on mine.

So far I've always used the stock 120vac power cords for my old Bowens studio strobes. Lately I came across a Bowens Travelpak that are made to fit my strobe.

One bad thing is that there is no charger for it.

Does anyone know if I can use a simple 12vdc battery charger, or directly from a automobile "cigarette" lighter? Or even directly to another 12v battery. That is providing I get the correct plug to fit.

Being I don't want to screw up my strobes, I've not checked anything yet. I don't even know if the charge connection is 12 volts.

I’m hunting a nice 24-70 f/2.8 version 2 and around $1200 is about the going rate which is ok but some are 7 years old or older and brand new on Amazon they are $1599 and maybe the same price on Canon.com. I hate the thoughts of buying new but so far the savings are not there for older stuff, one I saw had a chipped front element and it was still $1100 for damaged equipment.

Just a thought here but if you can wait a couple months, many prices will be affected by the "Black Friday" time of year.

Ive noticed the sale prices have been extended to about two weeks long not just one the origional day. Who knows, it may start a couple week early this year?

Admittedly I don't use mine often but try to.

When I'm going for quality and I notice colors are pretty much "bland" or don't really have something I can do a proper color check in post with, is when I pull it out. Then gust take two shots.

Much of my photography today is fast pace. I just don't have the time.

I believe the full name for that is West Wright Potter.

(The middle word might be spelled incorrectly.)

They do the job but are extremely slow sailboats.

Hi, this battery has been charged twice in the past, but suddenly will not take a charge either from a Wasabi charger or a Pentax charger. Anyone know of a way to persuade it?

You said, "in the past". How long in the past? What was the charge when you last used it?

One of the biggest problems with modern batteries is storing them with a low charge. Another is leaving them on a non-smart charger for a long time.

The best way to store them is to have about 80% charge.

If you have ever noticed, a 100% charged battery over a month or two, will discharge to about 80%, then very slowly discharge from there. (Unless something else is wrong.)
