I was 10 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked. My cousin was a B-24 pilot in the south Pacific. My family followed Ernie Pyle all through the war until he was killed. My cousin made it back and followed his dream of being an itinerant bee keeper until, while helping a farmer move irrigation pipes, he hit an overhead power line and died.
I went to a zoo in Karachi, Pakistan and saw a wolf there. I was so affected that I have not been to a Zoo since, with the exception of the one on the Island of Jersey. The one in Pakistan really affected me.

At Pacific City in Oregon, fishermen launch their boats by backing into the water. Then they park their rigs up the beach. On their return they wait for a wave and then power up and hit the beach and slide up the beach. Fun to watch and fun to do!
during wwII I lived in Minatare. About 12 miles from Scotts Bluff.
At the time of that eruption I was on a sailboat off the east coast. I looked at the moon, and said to my wife, "Something big has happened". The moon was a bright orange. Later we sailed into Chincotegue and learned that St Helens had erupted.
Wires are a reality in this modern world. In this photo they don't detract much due to their location. I like the scene.
I believe it is due to a focal plane shutter. Old time news photos of race cars showed oval tires from the same cause.
