Heritage edition, ehā¦ I remember seeing my first Ford GT {GT 40} at the beginning of summer 1967 on the Interstate highway going west about an hour or two out of St. Louis. I was about to doze off in the front passenger seat when I saw a car in the side mirror (Objects are closer than they appearā¦yada yadaā¦.) it was small and red and getting larger by the second. There were four of usā¦ all geology majors heading to Colorado for a summer field camp. By the time I could yell to get the attention of the ther three guys including the. Unsuspecting driver we were being passed and about to become a memory to the driver of the awesome street version of the iconi Ford GT. I had only just seen a picture of one a couple of days before and admittedly the picture didnāt take your breath away like the close encounter with this low flying UF-ORD did. This newer one is even more beautiful and sophisticated than the 50+ year old one, and Iād love to own one even if I had to hire someone to pull my decrepit old butt out of the seat.
I was fortunate to work for Furd Aerospace in the mid to lte 1980ās when the fabricators of comm satellite nose cones struck a deal with Ford Motor and Jack Roush Racing to build a carbon fiber cockpit for the circa 1986-ā88 Ford GTP car that was campaigned by Klaus Ludwig; Tom Gloy; Pete Halsmer; and Lyn St. James. Check out the 1986 Riverside GTP race when Lyn walked away from a fiery crash with minor injuries when the carbon fiber tub did what it was designed to doā¦ sheās still one of my heroes to this day!!!
