I shoot with ISO 800 or 1600 without a problem. Your shutter was faster then needed. Formula is 1/mm lens. So at 122 mm then 1/122 shutter would be fast enough. So f-stop could be tighter such as f-11 to give you better DOF (depth of field), Seems like the grass is sharp.

Wonderful capture. I drove in from the north on HY 5 but got there too late for the good light. Your capture is beautiful.

Good luck Dave. Learn to see your camera settings on your computer. All cameras and all computers will do this without software. I love PhotoShop Elements for tweaking. Many members use this. Here are a few tips to make the judges happy.

David

The Twelve elements listed below are in accordance to their importance.

1. IMPACT
2. TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE
3. CREATIVITY
4. STYLE
5. COMPOSITION
6. PRESENTATION
7. COLOR BALANCE
8. CENTER OF INTEREST
9. LIGHTING
10. SUBJECT MATTER
11. TECHNIQUE
12. STORY TELLING

Impact is the sense one gets upon viewing an image for the first time. Compelling images evoke laughter, sadness, anger, pride, wonder or another intense emotion. There can be impact in any of these twelve elements.

Technical excellence is the print quality of the image itself as it is presented for viewing. Retouching, manipulation, sharpness, exposure, printing, mounting, and correct color are some items that speak to the qualities of the physical print.

Creativity is the original, fresh, and external expression of the imagination of the maker by using the medium to convey an idea, message or thought.

Style is defined in a number of ways as it applies to a creative image. It might be defined by a specific genre or simply be recognizable as the characteristics of how a specific artist applies light to a subject. It can impact an image in a positive manner when the subject matter and the style are appropriate for each other, or it can have a negative effect when they are at odds.

Composition is important to the design of an image, bringing all of the visual elements together in concert to express the purpose of the image. Proper composition holds the viewer in the image and prompts the viewer to look where the creator intends. Effective composition can be pleasing or disturbing, depending on the intent of the image maker.

Presentation affects an image by giving it a finished look. The mats and borders used, either physical or digital, should support and enhance the image, not distract from it.

Color Balance supplies harmony to an image. An image in which the tones work together, effectively supporting the image, can enhance its emotional appeal. Color balance is not always harmonious and can be used to evoke diverse feelings for effect.

Center of Interest is the point or points on the image where the maker wants the viewer to stop as they view the image. There can be primary and secondary centers of interest. Occasionally there will be no specific center of interest, when the entire scene collectively serves as the center of interest.

Lighting—the use and control of light—refers to how dimension, shape and roundness are defined in an image.
Whether the light applied to an image is man made or natural, proper use of it should enhance an image.

Subject Matter should always be appropriate to the story being told in an image.

Technique is the approach used to create the image. Printing, lighting, posing, capture, presentation media, and more are part of the technique applied to an image.

Story Telling refers to the image’s ability to evoke imagination. One beautiful thing about art is that each viewer might collect his own message or read her own story in an image.

Great capture. I was there 2 weeks ago and haven't had a chance to tweak my pictures. I got to use my lifetime National Parks card to get my family in for free. What a beautiful lake area.

You need to post with "store original" to allow details and to show camera settings. Was the original RAW capture at a higher resolution and in changing to jpeg it went to low resolution. If so you could re-do it. I always take on highest dpi.

Most caves are lit. Set your ISO to 800 or more. F-stop not too tight. Perhaps F-8 and hope that shutter is not too slow.

Practice before the event. To take good face picture you need a flash or reflector. But use your auto setting and practice beforehand. Good luck.

All excellent pictures. Number 2 is most outstanding. By the way, after you post you can go back and name or number the pictures for easier discussion. David

It is a beautiful mountain picture HDR will help brighten the dark areas and darken the too bright areas. Although that is not much of a problem here. I note two things. I never use ISO 100. Many believe that high ISO will give you noise. I often use ISO 800. This would allow a smaller aperture or faster shutter. The rule for shutter speed without a tripod is 1/mm lens or faster. At 28 mm this would be 1/28 and you used 1/10. I am so jealous of your great capture. Your camera settings did not show the f-stop? David
