I live in La Quinta, California and Yesterday I could swear that I saw a topic entitled "Moon" and it was a pic of the full moon taken in Arizona around 5pm our time which made me think that I should be seeing it just beginning to rise and I went out and took the first pic which with the auto focus and stability turned off With a tripod, using Live View and a remote trigger on my Canon T2i. It is the first reasonably sharp moon shot I've taken.

Then I woke up this morning way too early and decided to see what the lunar eclipse looked like and took the second picture after standing outside in the near freezing temp for about an hour and a half but it seems to have been worth it in my humble opinion... The moon is over Mt. San Jacinto, an 11,000 foot peek just west of Palm Springs.

the glass is gone :)

Thanks, I if the wall is in focus a reflection would also be in focus. What state were they taken in? Looks like northern New England. I lived in Vermont for 20 years and saw lots of similar scenery.

These are just some pics I took while driving the country roads on a Sunday afternoon.

Is what we see in the window (3rd photo) a reflection or is the glass gone. There sure is a lot to see in that photo - great shooting!

Thank you for your reply. It gives me a starting place. As it was i did not even know what questions to ask. Now i have some brands to compare.

I'm not familiar with that brand but when I wanted to get an ultrawidw angle lens (Canon 10-22mm $800+) for my real estate work, I invested about $40 and rented the lens for 5 days - www.rentglass.com and really liked the results and bought the lens soon after. I don't know if you can rent lens for your pentax but it's worth a try...

I've been continuing with my photography so don't think my absence means I've decided it's not for me. I just haven't been here. :) So I thought I'd pop in and show some of my work. Critiques are welcome as always. Lord knows I need all the help I can get. I'm teaching myself so it's all trial and error.. plus a little natural instinct.
One of the bridges here in town that cross the Mississippi River is a favorite subject for area photographers and I'm no different. I've got a bunch of them so picture #1 is one of those.
I was in Tulsa last month and took some great shots of the golf course in Mohawk Park. Great color everywhere so picture #2 is all about the autumn colors.
Picture #3 was shot on an overcast, misty day. The sky is so white and I don't quite know what to do about that other than cut and paste another sky. I probably couldn't pull it off anyway with all the tiny tree branches. Anyway.. this "house" is on the National Register of Historic Places because it was the home of John Wood who was the 12th Governor of Illinois. The home was completed in 1838 after 3 years of construction. It was originally across the street and Wood had it moved across the street because of a new mansion he had built. They had to cut this house in half for the move.
I've been continuing with my photography so don't ... (show quote)

Re the sky in #3, Because the light is so flat on the building a different sky (blue) would make it look strange I think. I tried switching the shy on a cloudy picture and quickly gave up...

Tom, no real filters on the camera for that one. At the moment the only filter I have is an ultraviolet one that I keep on the end of my lens mainly to protect the lens from scratches. For that pic the planets seemed to align just right for me. It was a case of being lucky instead of good. The original pic is very washed out and I passed it by a couple of times while going threw the shots for that day. I just happened to be board one night and decided to see if there was anything to be done with it. With Picnik, I sharpened it up a little and added some blue to the pic. I then sat and played around with the exposeure by darkening the entire pic up and then played with the highlights and shadows.

Shane, I took this picture with the camera set to Landscape and just shooting at the setting sun, I was really surprised that it came out - no post processing...

Thanks, I wonder what he could do with Photoshop...

He'd be pissed that there is no f64 on a digital lens and he'd stress out trying to wave his dodging and burning tools over the monitor screen in post production....

Good point! Thanks

Re; The 4th pic - bird beneath the sun. How did you do that - with neutral density filter(s)?

In the first pic, I thought it was the Chicago "Bears" and the "Eagles" were in Philly... I "like" the 2nd and "love" the 3rd. Nice work!

40 years ago, when newly married, my wife and I each bought Mamiya Sekor SLRs, took a local photography class and even developed our own B&W prints. Eventually we got real jobs and a family and had no time for photography. Now we are Realtors in the Palm Springs area and I bought a Canon T2i to supplement our listing pictures which are taken by a professional. Film to Digital is quite a difference! So much to learn!

As an aside, 40 years ago, we went to a local art gallery to see a "photo exhibit". I was aghast when I saw the 8"x10" pictures and they were not even in color and the asking price was $500 each. In the early 70's $500 was a huge price to pay for anything especially some B&W pictures of some mountains. I went over to the artist hoping to learn why anyone would pay so much for a B&W picture. I was truly lucky to have Ansel Adams take the time to explain why his photos could draw such a price and I have been in aw of his photos ever since. He taught me not to look so much at the subject but rather the entire picture - it's all about detail - you can see so much in his pictures. Only if I had had $500 back then...

Thanks for the comment, We also did the Architectural Tour on the river. It was truly amazing. Here's another shot from ground level of this water canon that goes off for 10 minutes every hour on the hour. One of the Architectural tour boats got caught on the Lake Michigan side and wouldn't try going back until it quit.

Here are a few Chicago pics I took from our Sheraton Hotel room this past summer. I am amazed they are so clear since the windows were filthy. This is my first upload, I hope it works...
