Hi Big Hal,
Thanks for the compliments. Unfortunately I Don't know specifics not the Plane. I know it seated 6 plus pilot and co pilot. There is an aviation museum in Anchorage with a lot about early bush pilots and was also told Alaska has the highest concentration of float planes in the world.

All great shots. I really like the different colors of the houses in #2, and the composition in #5. Being an aviation enthusiast - read "Nut" - please tell me about that beautiful turbo powered craft in the last photo. I would love to fly in it.

I have to admit I had to look up "G.A.S." I agree with you. When starting out I almost got sucked into the rampant consumerism, but by limiting myself to one purchase of photography equipment a year a lot of thought goes into each purchase. I remember hearing a guy carrying a backpack and rucksack saying to a kid "you can never have too many lenses", I tend not to agree with that. One of my favorite musicians once said "limitation spawns creativity" which is "the rule of the work around." For me its the opportunity, a couple fast lenses and a patient wife.

Oh, I have travel envy now!
Also, You'd be surprised how many people I've seen getting amazing gear, yet taking mediocre photos. G.A.S. can be dangerous.

Thanks for the compliment. The trip was mostly driving, although the first part we flew to Ketchikan, took the Marine Highway Inside passage to Skagway (with stops in-between) then to Sitka, flew to Anchorage, rented a car. Went to Denali, Talkeetna, Hope, Seward, Homer, Alyeska, with side trips, back to Anchorage. The close up was shot with a 70-200mm 2.8, its pretty hard not to get a good image with it.

beautiful shots! that close up is amazing!

Question, you went via cruise? because I instantly remembered my cruise via DCL ( Tracy's arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan )

Thats it for now. Time to attack all the other pictures I've taken that have remained dormant on my hard drives.

LMG, you presented a beautiful set. My wife and I have talked many times about going to Alaska on a cruise and wonder if that's how you went or did you go self guided? Your photos simply transport the viewer to there and are wonderfully done! Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Steve, My wife researched and planned the trip, We flew to Ketchikan, took the Marine Highway to Skagway, flew to Anchorage rented a car (if you get the car in town and not at the airport the car costs half as much). Drove to Denali, Talkeetna, Hope, Seward, Homer, Alyeska, with tons of stops in-between, then back to Anchorage to fly home.

Is the second image of a Piper Cub or Super Cub on floats? The yellow surely appears to be Piper Cub Yellow, but no black "lightening bolt" on the fuselage.

It is a Piper Cub, there is a close up shot in Two Weeks in Alaska 2 that shows the lightening bolt

Love the last 2 specially..
by the way, is the third picture from Ketchikan?
It reminds me when I visited there in the Disney Wonder a few years ago.

It was of a bolder at low tide, there was seaweed, barnacles and shells allover.

The fifth one is kind of creepy, to me. What exactly are we looking at. I'm think maybe barnacles on a boat with seaweed or grass caught on top.

Both dogs were uninterested in what was immediately around them, possibly to paws for refection on a ruff life. (I can hear my son and daughter groaning)

The Alaskan people are so welcoming and helpful. It's the big state with the "hometown feel". First time I ever totally disconnected from the rat race, turned off my phone and let the emails pile up and learned how to relax. Cannot wait to return.

My first goals were Bald eagles and brown bear. I soon realized that the bald eagles are everywhere, and the locals can point you to the bear and keep you safe, although I didn't get any bear fishing for salmon, but did get to see the northern lights, though was not prepared to capture any images... next time.
