Mess? The import changes were a bad move, but import still works - it is not a big deal, but I am glad they want to reverse it to the "advanced" capability that they had.

I honestly do not see it as a "mess" to avoid though. Importing is only one aspect of post processing.

I may be a lucky one as I saw no real issues using the "flubbed" version, other than the inconvenience of the dumbing down of the import screen - no crashes, no hiccups, no slow downs. And of course the patch came out very quickly to address the major problems that were reported, and when the new update comes along I hope it will smarten the import back up where it belongs.

Thanks so much for everyone's comments and input. I guess mess wasn't a very good way to ask about this. Since I am new and no one in my tribe would refer to me as tech savvy, I would prefer to learn one way that won't change much for a couple of months as I learn the basics. Since there is no time table, I will go ahead and start with chin up and a big smile!

In my conversation with Alberto, he stated that they would clean the lens. In the paper work that accompanied the returned lens, it stated that they cleaned it. I know there is a firmware update for the original produced Canon version...but don't if there is one for Nikon.

Do you suppose the cleaning was the only thing they did to the lens? Did they also correct whatever issue prompted you to send it in?

Well....my lens came back from Tamron Friday. Paper work stated that they cleaned 2 specks of dust. I shot over 600 frames over the weekend it focused spot on each time....and I had a lot of nice keepers.

Many thanks Janw! I spent a few hours at the local arboretum yesterday and came home with a couple of keepers.

I am a minister and think these suggestions are good. My family is Scandinavian descent and we have pictures from many funerals. My husband, a genealogist, wishes his family had the same customs.

Beautiful! I am having some focus issues with mine and still trying to learn...a lot of things. Could you expand on what you mean regarding the focus point.

In-Lightened from what I understand the firmware helps when you are focusing up close and move out with the zoom in the 400 to 600mm range it may not focus the first time also the firmware helps while tracking BIF might want to go to https://www.youtube/watch?v=mihYSbKOisU

The youtube shows the same problem I have had. My lens is for nikon. Maybe a better question is do they have firmware for that. One would think it would not be necessary after the canon debacle. Alberto at tamron never said anything about firmware...only that they couldnt get it to fail....and I sent my camera body too. Grrrrrr. Many thanks for your help!

Is the firm ware update for issues with near to far focus problems or? Tamron just sent a ship notice and mine is on its way back...they couldnt get it to fail so no repair. Despite all this, I am very pleased with the results when it does focus. Is there anything else I can do?

I shoot BIF handheld and also with my monopod with gimbal head if I have it mounted at the time. Both work well but the mono & gimbal gives less arm fatigue.

Thanks for sharing!

I have this lens for my D7100. It has had intermittent issues with near to far focus and it seems the greater the change, the more likely it is to fail. It is at Tameron's lab now and as of yesterday, it would not fail for the technicians. It sounds like some cars I have owned...sigh. Any advice? Many thanks to all...I have learned so much!

I am a newbie trying to wade through choices...and now its the which head on mono or tri with what type of shooting. I really appreciated your reply. I have a tamron 150-600 and like to do wildlife along with flowers and butterflys. I have tried some bif. Will a gimbal head on mono work well for that? Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

I use a gimbal head on my monopod when shooting with my 150-500 Sigma and have found that it is the best head for a monopod and a big lens, much better than a ball head or no head.

What type of shooting do you do with this arrangement?
Thanks!
