I was one told that "just because "they" are handicapped does not mean they are not A**holes."

Just shake it off and carry on. Let it run off your back like water off a duck. If it gets too tough we'll send in "Big Daddy".

Just enjoy.

Thanks, I am over it. I even sent a private message to the member apologizing for the intrusion. I understand the rule now. Time to get back to photography.

WOW nothing like calling a spade, a spade.

Please tell us how you really feel about the members of a community who freely share information that has taken some not only years to learn but more than a few pennies out of their savings accounts.

You see...this is exactly what I am talking about. I have over 45 years of photography experienced and a huge investment in equipment. I have total respect for those who share their knowledge as well as those who wish to learn. But I am not happy with those who respond with rude messages instead of understanding and patience with new members of the forum. We all stumble as we learn. It my case I suppose it is the forum rules that I am still learning. Here's a novel idea. Instead of blasting someone maybe we could use the post to explain the rules and do so in a kinder tone.

- Do not hijack topics by posting your pictures inside someone else's topic in a manner that would divert the discussion away from the original poster's pictures. In such situation, it's best to start a new topic and post your pictures there. It is OK to post pictures when explicitly invited by the OP or when posting pictures inside an existing topic would genuinely benefit that particular discussion.

You can find all the rules in a thread called Pictures -- section rules -- last updated January 31, 2012 it's posted on the top of the Picture section. It is your responsibility to read them.

Now saying that: I say the reply you received and I do believe that was out of line and snotty.

Thank you. That is the way it should be done. Now I do understand. I wish the first time I got blasted that the person would have done what you just did. It's called helping each other.

Aren't we lucky to have you to weed out those who you don't like.

Whew!

Read my earlier post. I am not trying to weed anyone out. Maybe I selected a poor choice of words. I am just asking for a little civility and inderstanding as we correspond.

Incidentally what started this was that I got blasted for posting a photo in a reply in the gallery to a photo of Chicago. As a new user I did not know that I could not do that without permission. I just thought that the member would enjoy seeing another photo of the city. I have read the rules and still can't find that rule. If the person that so rudely blasted me for my error had simple quoted the rule I would have understood. I have since apologized to the member who posted the great photo of Chicago. I would remove the photo from my post but I do not know how to do that.

I just got blasted for posting my photo of Chicago after I saw yours. I was informed that it was disrespectful. I am new to this forum and did not know that I was not supposed to do that. I offer my apologies to you. I do not know how to remove the photo or I would.

Jim

Great shot of a great city. I travelled to Chicago quite a bit in my working days. Here is a shot taken from an airplane as we approached Ohare on November 25, 2004.

PS -- Many of my trips there in the winter were greeted by snow!

I am not talking about the critique. That is the good part. I am talking about all of the crap about where things get posted. I can take as much heat as you want to turn up when it comes to photography and I welcome it. I don't welcome getting blasted when a photo is posted in the "wrong" forum or when I am accused of being disrepectful becaue I posted a photo in the wrong place in the gallery. If anyone is disrespectable it is those who have very little patience with those who are new to the forum.

I have participated in this Photography forum for about two weeks now and I have never seen as much nit picking from some of the members. I thought that this would be a great place to share and to learn, and for the most part the photographers are really helpful and knowledgeable, but there are some who just do not need to be on here.

I am not sure that I will continue to post.

I didn't see any invitation from Jaming64 for others to post any pictures on his topic. Forum rules are on the main UHH page under HELP. Suggest you read them and show courtesy and respect after reading them.

What am I missing here? I thought this was the photo gallery where we could share our photos.

The home page says:

Photo Gallery
Show off your pics and/or ask for general critique

INCREASE to f/5.6?

I'm misunderstanding something. Going from f/2.8 to f/5.6 is decreasing the aperture (= smaller hole).

What's causing the blur? Camera shake, or lack of depth of field?

Cheers,

R.

Yes, going from f/2.8 to f/5.6 is decreasing the aperture. 5.8 is a smaller opening than 2.8. The blur is from camera shake and a a low shutter speed. Put the camera on a tripod. A lower ISO will also eliminate any noise in the image.

Wow, thanks to all of you for taking the time to give me your advice.

I don't like the putty colored lenses as I am an 'older' woman, often out on my own photographing and I just wouldn't feel so 'safe' as with a less inconspicuous lens. I looked for lens coats but couldn't find any black ones - I'll keep looking though.

I like the sound of a 70 - 200 f2.8 (if there is a black jacket for it) with a doubler, that's something I will look at along with the Canon 70 -300 IS 4-5.6.

Not sure I could handle something like the Sigma Big lenses.

Again. my thanks to all of you, you have been really helpful.
