It's the short duration of the flash that stops the action. Neat photo!

Thank you for the compliment and the better explanation.
By the way, Canon 7D was the Cannon of choice tonight.

You got that stop action with a shutter speed of 1/40th of a second? very nice.

I pulled my exif to confirm before I posted it because I thought it was higher.
Thank you for the compliment.
Here is a copy from the Exif reading.

I was shooting last night just before dusk and the flash didn't seem to be bothering my swarm of hummers.
Maybe they are getting used to me.
I little bit soft but it was hand held shooting last night.

I was to lazy to get out my tripod and look what a mess it is!!!
Good job Albuqshutterbug

Thank you,
Yours looks a little over exposed and your settings should have been closer than this. Other than that it looks pretty good for a hand held shot.
Well done.

What solar filter did you use?

Thanks

I used a home made Baader solar film filter.
Most sites that carry it also have directions for making a filter for either telescope or camera.
For my camera, I use uv filters that I remove the glass from and mount the solar film on 1/4" wide rings cut to fit into the filter holder. Must fit tight to be safe however.

I shot this over the weekend with my "kit" Canon 28-135mm. 2 clicks of sharpen but otherwise untouched.
This is the lens that came with my 7D.

Thank you,
She setup shop in the middle of the walkway to my porch.
I have to give her credit, the porch light should be a beacon to flyers but I don't think she's going to be able to catch me. I have to remember to go around.

Last Tuesday, the 12th, I was out looking for deer to photograph. It was getting near sundown when I came upon and Doe and a small velvet buck. As the sun was descending in the West I looked to the North and found this beautiful cloud and after the sun was down I found a pond for the sunset and reflection

Nice looking young buck and a nice doe to keep him company.
I really like the sunset shot.
Nicely done.

Nice shots.

Thank you,
It was a relatively small display with the largest shell being 3" but still a very nice job.
Small lot in the country near a freeway so they kept it toned done.
A 3" shell will go roughly 300' in the air before exploding.
