I love UHH. It's part of my morning ritual of checking email, weather, news.
I'm a retired teacher of mathematics (40 years in the NJ public system). I loved every year with a passion.
As I check posts on UHH each morning, I'm intrigued by the questions asked in many posts. Frequently, I use Google and Microsoft's search box (called Cortana) to research a possible response to the question(s). Often I find information, within seconds, relevant to a posted question.

So, here is the teacher in me wanting to help those who do not use search tools to find answers to their post(s). Google, Bing, Edge, IE, Safari and Cortana (available in Win 10), when used properly, are like having a miniature library on your desktop. One does not even need formal training to be successful in researching information. Just type exactly what you want to know in the search box.
There was a time you had to be clever with how to search successfully. No longer!! It's a piece of cake. Frequently, I copy the title of the post and paste that into Cortana or other search engine boxes. The answer is often immediate. Sometimes it is necessary to review a few of the links offered by the search.

Please try using search tools! You'll be amazed at how easy it is. You will learn and improve your skills as you continue to use them. I'd be happy to help. Feel free to PM me.
Good luck in your searching.
Mark

Computer searches are great. But there is still that 1% that is not factual on some topics. I diagnosed an eye problem via computer search. Doctors don't like patients diagnosing their own problems. I understand that. But when your problem doesn't go away, you gotta do what you gotta do. I narrowed it down to two. I was sent to an Ophthalmologist. One of the two diagnosis I had narrowed it down to was correct, thanks to computer searches. But first listen to your doctor's advice. Unless?

Great shot. He or she is a hefty sized on. Years ago in my community we had an all white squirrel we left food out for months. And then it disappeared. Maybe it got married and had kids?

We had a Sony with problems too costly to repair (just after the warranty had expired) and replaced it with another Sony. Same thing happened again with one exception. We didn't go with Sony again.

That's a sad story. I bought two CRT Sony Trinitron TVs in the past. First one lasted nearly 12 years, and I sold the second one after 5 years of use. Sony did not have competition in the past as they do now in the TV market. You can get good quality LCD TVs for less money than Sony's. But, since Sony is in the production of so many electrical devices, the corporation is in very good financial shape. No, I will not buy another Sony TV. Other items, yes.

I have never owned a dslr only small compact models. I have started to have interest in photography again in my Sr years. I still own a number of 35mm slrs 2 Canon FEs, canon fa , nikkormat, to name a few. However a recent trip to Alaska revived my interest in scenery and wildlife shots. I tried to pickup a photography magazine to do a bit of research on the flight home. I was surprised that none where available anywhere at numerous stores . Ii has been 25-30 years since the last one I bought , did they all go out of business? So using my trusty iPad I started my researching and discovered this great forum called ugly hedgehog . I am still trying to catch up with the new photo language and terms , but this site has really been far better than any magazine I could have purchased . Thanks to all that contribute your experiences and your wealth of photography knowledge.
Now after all that I do have a question about a camera I have found in a pawnshop. it is a Sony a100 in like new condition with a 18-55macr at and a 200mm at both are Sony lenses. I know the camera and technology are 10 years old but reading about the camera it sounds like very high quality. It has an adaptor for new style cards and everything seems to function properly, however there is no book. I can buy the camera and 2 lenses for $150 , is this a good deal and is this a good camera for good general picture taking ?

Yes, the camera is a good choice for a beginner and so is the price. A bargain. I believe the Sony a100 was their very first digital camera? A friend has the Sony a350 with live view, video, and 14 megapixels. I don't think the a100 has video or live view? If that is no concern to you as a beginner, the Sony a100 should suit you well. Good luck.

Great shot. Sometimes bullies win. Raccoons are alert and very intelligent animals. They are best at finding food. If your house is rural, and has a hole big enough for a raccoon to fit through, you might come home and witness one in your house kitchen, eating out of your breakfast cereal box.

Get a good camera neck strap so you won't drop your camera. Buy a rocket blower to clean your sensor. And you can buy a Watson or Wasabi third party extra battery. Save money on that bargain. Enjoy your camera.

Canon elected to use C-fast instead of XQD in their 1DX for video speed. Why they chose not to add it to this camera is a highly discussed topic and probably an big mistake for the video crowd as not having it has clearly limited this cameras video capability. My personal opinion is that Canon wants the video crowd to invest in their C Series video cameras rather than DSLRs, but who knows.
If video isn't a major consideration then this is a very fine sensor to move up to.

Good explanation. It makes sense if video is not a major concern. Many people never use video on crop sensor or full frame cameras.

When I visit cities that have a professional sports team, if I am able, I like taking photos of the stadium and surroundings. Some are in downtown areas that make it even better. Restaurants, businesses, and people who don't mind posing for a photo when asked. While you can Google these images, doing it yourself has value. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL team stadium.

There are so many to select from. Go to the Canon website and select the point and shoot section that has compact cameras. Read features and prices. There are good point and shoot bridge and compact cameras.

It took Canon awhile to release this camera. Some who own the Mark 3 say they will upgrade to the Mark 4. The pre-reviews have been positive thus far. You actually have the camera mounted on a 600mm lens, so it is you, better than anyone else now, who can give a fair appraisal on the camera. The camera does not accommodate the C-fast card. I have wondered why this newest camera isn't capable of C-fast card usage?

That should be a good combination, the D7200 and the 200-500mm zoom lens. The D7200 was the best DX camera until the D500 camera arrived. I missed out getting a refurbished D7200 some months ago for $769 from Adorama. The last I checked some weeks ago they were selling refurbished at Nikon USA for $1000. The D7200 still holds the Silver Medal in the DX category of cameras. And the D7100 is still holding on too, despite the D7200. Enjoy your 200-500mm lens. It's a great lens.

It's hard to believe this happened 15 years ago, but I remember it well. I was getting ready for work and turned on my bedroom TV and in minutes, I saw the second jet plane go into the 2ND Tower. Nearly 3000 people lost their lives in that tragedy. Our Government is spending billions of dollars for safety and security, outside the military budget. And while we can't stop terrorism completely, the fight against it must continue. Fort Hood, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, and Orlando were tragedies that happened after 9-11-01. The 4th suicidal jet plane that was aborted and crashed in Pennsylvania, was likely destined for the White House IMO. Hats off to the Public Employees, who gave their lives in the rescue attempts on that day too. And our military men who responded thereafter.
