Beautiful granddaughter! And you caught the koala awake! Every time I go there it's asleep on a branch. I swear it's in the same spot every time. Nice set and a great day for a great cause.

I got my daughter a 3400 for her 13th birthday this year. It is a good camera, takes excellent photos, and is not complicated. I got it refurbished with the same 2 lenses for $399 (Adorama). No matter what camera you choose, refurbished is the way to go. And you don't want one that's too hard to use or she'll give up using it before she starts. She doesn't need a state of the art camera at 11, and the 3400 will be a good starting point. She can use it for years until someday, if she's still interested, she can upgrade. Maybe someday she'll be posting her photos on here as a new UHH member! Hope she enjoys whatever camera you choose for her!

Wow, thanks! Takes the pressure off the rest of us to go burn up our eyeballs and our camera sensors this afternoon! Thanks for the preview!

This is a squirrel proof feeder. The little bugger figured out how not to step on the ring that closes the port. But if it were hung away from a pole or anything else the squirrel can climb on, he wouldn't be able to get the seed out as easily. This feeder is beat up from squirrels and raccoon trying to find a free meal. I found, if you can't beat 'em, enjoy 'em. They're good for practicing photography skills. Use a high shutter speed to stop action since they can be quick.

I find it upsetting, also, that there is so much trash. When I go hiking or take my camera out to practice some shooting, I try to remember to take a bag with me and pick up trash along the way. Of course, if I forget to take a bag with me, there's always a good chance of finding a Walmart bag laying around I can use! Sad, but true. If anyone on UHH geocaches, it's a big thing there. Common decency to pick up trash as you're out looking for your treasures. I think photography should be the same! Thanks for the pic!

I have had the D5100 since it came out (2011?) and I have loved it. But I am now thinking of an upgrade. If I were you, I'd look into a refurbished, updated camera. Lots of good ones to be had at a decent price. But if you decide to go with the D5100, it's not a bad choice. It comes down to how much you want to spend. Welcome to the forum! Post some pics you took with whatever camera you decided on!

I'm down the road from you in Sandbridge right now. I have probably 100 sunrise pics because i get up and outside for the peace and solitude of the mornings. Beautiful pic from VB! Starting the day off right! Enjoy!
