I read this article that you posted and found almost nothing particularly stupid said by republicans. In fact, the author did not quote a single elected republican official. He spends a lot of time quoting someone I never heard of complaining about the metric system. He quotes Elizabeth Hasselback complaining about t***sparency over Ben Ghazi, and Rush Limbaugh saying that mass t***sit is a way for the gubment to control people. The rest of the story just makes vague statements attributed to nobody in particular, just "republicans said" this or that.

Hell, I support conservatives and I could have found better quotes than that.

You have to realize Soba that other countries are much more advanced in race relations than the US. The bigoted r****ts of this country hold it back. I'm sure he'll be accepted and will go on to play James Bond in many movies...unless he's just a bad actor but people putting millions into a picture usually scope that out ahead of time. These people here have to get out of the 1800's. :)

I'm sorry, but race relations are worse in most other countries. In fact, there are pretty much only two countries in the world where someone can attain the highest status in either monetary, social, or political ideals that the country has to offer no matter what their race or religion: The United States and Israel.

Even the countries of Europe that you are probably alluding to as having much more advanced race relations, have tremendous social and political grievances against each other. Europe also has plenty of colored people. How many of them do you see elected to public office?

I think you should lighten up a bit on Rush Limbaugh. I have listened to him for years and he hasn't got a r****t bone in his body. If you think that it is r****t to say that a black actor doesn't seem right playing the role of James Bond, just imagine a white actor playing Muhammed Ali or Malcolm X in a movie.

As for Limbaugh saying that "I know this is r****t", he says that all the time. He is being facetious.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Palestinians don't really want actual statehood. It would mean that they would have to produce their own electricity, pump their own water etc... and they would no longer receive the huge welfare subsidies they get from Europe, Arab States, and America. Why do you think that Yassir Arafat turned down statehood when Israel offered it to him in the 1990's?

The Palestinians would rather just keep fighting low level battles and commit terrorist attacks that are in line with their ideology because they know full well that Israel will only fight militarily up to the point of slowing down their enemies. Israel has never fought to defeat another country. They only fight to the point where the Arabs are driven back from their land, and then they stop, in order to let the Arabs regroup so they can attack them again another day.

I fear this will never end.

Nobody cares about Jessy Ventura.

Silver, why are you even in this conversation if you care so little about Ventura? It is a waste of our time and internet space for you to keep injecting "nobody cares" without offering even a hint of thoughtful dialog on the subject.

When Jesse Ventura was first elected as Governor of Minnesota, I was somewhat enamored of him because he was not a politician, was an atheist, and didn't have affiliation with either the Democrat or Republican party. I'll admit In hindsight, these were naive, somewhat Obamaesque reasons. The first thing that I saw that made me change my mind was when the World Football League (I'm not sure this is the right name) made its appearance. They hired Ventura as a commentator for football games despite the fact that he was a sitting governor.

During one TV broadcast Ventura derided the head coach for one of the teams because the coach had apparently made a critical remark about Ventura in the press. Ventura's vengeful remarks continued through the broadcast until finally when the game ended, Ventura asked the camera crew to come follow him down to the field where he could confront the coach in person. They did just that and Ventura went up to the coach in front of the cameras, challenged his manhood and then "called him out" to a fist fight. The coach, who didn't seem to recognize Ventura, waived him away as some sort of lunatic.

This was definitely not behavior becoming the Governor of a state (except maybe Illinois), nor of an adult in general. I recently saw a video of Ventura being interviewed by Pierce Morgan, who asked Ventura about all the wacky conspiracy theories that he believes in. Unbelievably, Ventura made Morgan seem like the paragon of rationality and conservatism by comparison. It was surreal.

You are so full of crap, the only benefit is is that you get to depreciate the asset in 1 year instead of 5 or 7 years, but in the end you lose the depreciation that you would otherwise claim in the subsequent years, the government is not paying for your asset you are, just how dumb are you? The government is allowing you to take that fast depreciation to entice you to expand and invest, but they are not paying you anything for it and whatever tax advantage you gain in the short term you will lose in the long term.... and no it is not like the government is paying for your equipment it is like you are paying for your equipment. Only a liberal would be stupid enough to not understand that. When you make a capital investment that capital will eventually wear out or be used up, therefore it is expensed generally over the useful life of the asset which is totally fair to the business and to the government. In this case they allow for that expense to occur all at once so if you for instance go out and spend a quarter of a million dollars on a dozer you get to deduct that quarter of a million dollars all at once from the revenue side of your income statement, but since you are only required to pay a 35% tax rate that quarter of a million dollar deduction is really only results in a lessening of your tax bill by $87.500 So you still reduced your cashflow by $167,500 and the entire quarter of a million dollars was your money to begin with, the government didn't pay for shit.

Now Dirt, don't forget that if you take all of that deduction in year one you get no further deductions on that piece of equipment in subsequent years so as it continues to consume its useful life and you have to save for its replacement piece you receive no tax benefit.

Government demands a share of your profit but they assume no risk in your business nor do they contribute to its capital formation. It is outrageous in my mind that dumbass dems would think that accelerated depreciation is a subsidy, the only reason that theses industries have paid lower tax rates is because they continue to invest in new drilling operations at a rate that consumes most of the profit that they have made, really you should be cheering the success of the program, yet you call legitimate tax expenses subsidies.... Well Dirt according to your convoluted reasoning, the payroll that an employer pays his employees to produce and then deducts from his revenues to determine his income is also a federal subsidy, hell corporate taxes in your twisted thinking would better be though of as a sales tax, no deductions for expenses incurred in the production process should be allowed, and if they are then it is some sort of subsidy....

You are really thick headed, and like all progressives a socialist at heart. I don't know why I even bother with you....
You are so full of crap, the only benefit is is th... (show quote)

Hey Blurry, thanks for your perseverance. I have been learning a lot about taxation economics from you and others on this thread. Keep up the good fight! Even if you have to navigate over speed bumps like our friend Inertpusher.

[quote=dirtpusher]have no problem with fair profit. problem is there is very little competition they know it. they can charge what they want how they wan't.

Actually they cannot charge what they want how they want. there really is competition, not only here, but from foreign companies. The OPEC cartel would often try to collude in raising prices, but inevitably some company would drop ranks and lower their prices because all the buyers would scurry to them. Not only this, but consumers change their driving habits and buy more efficient cars when the price of gasoline goes up.

If what you say is true, why don't the oil companies just raise the cost of a barrel of oil to one-thousand dollars. They would all soon be richer than Bill Gates. Every product has its own limits of what people will pay for it.

[quote=dirtpusher]yup yup sure are... just like like last ten years biggest proffits ever.. yup yup sure are.
With Only $93 Billion in Profits, the Big Five Oil Companies and that just one year.

I want to know why people have a problem with making profits. If the oil companies made $93 Billion in profits, this means that the consumers were able to use $93 Billion worth of gasoline by their own free will. This is a wonderful bargain. The gasoline enabled consumers to travel far and wide over this great country of ours, much more economically than say, Europeans.

In a similar vein, Walmart, (usually the biggest target of the "profit is greedy" mongers), has almost single-handedly raised the standard of living for poorer Americans. Where else could the poor afford to get decent goods at such affordable prices. And all this being done on a voluntary basis. No one is being forced to buy gasoline or products from WalMart.

Average people willingly make these trades of dollars for products every day.

What a fascinating article. Perhaps this explains how people in an affluent society can still feel miserable enough to commit suicide, while people in primitive circumstances are still capable of being very happy. I try to remind myself every day that most of the rest of the world lives in what we would consider abject poverty.

Israel already has all the missiles they would need to level Gaza ten times over, but they have chosen not to do so despite getting bombarded by Hamas' missiles for the last decade.

I have been reading this chit-chat section every day for the last six months or so and I rarely get involved with the conversation. This however, is the the most egregious thread I have ever come across. I thought Larry Payne was a seriously deluded individual, but this Whole-in-theTooth guy is just a paranoid schizophrenic with no connection to reality, and possibly a real danger to society. If what someone said about him being a dentist is true, this is really disturbing. Usually I think of people with these views to be unemployed misfits living in their parents basement. I don't know why I continued to read all 14 pages of this discussion except out of a morbid fascination for the bizarre. I did however, learn the astounding revelations that Egypt and Hamas are run by Zionists and that Bin Ladin has been dead since 2001, so I guess it was worth the read.
Perhaps there is a bright side to this: I have never seen Conservatives and Liberals come together before with such unanimity against a common enemy, the way we did after 911. So many thoughtful and informed comments by my HedgeHog Brothers. Hell, even Dirtpusher is starting to make sense to me!
