Many thanks GPS Phil and James for your comments.

Duxford for me is about 50 miles from where I live, I'm now retired so I can also pick my days for the next visit.

At Duxford they also have a army battle tank section, within that section is an area devoted to Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery's war time field headquarters, this includes his battle headquarters and sleeping truck/bedroom. For the last 20 years or so I have had the privilege and pleasure of knowing Bert Toller, Bert was Montys "Batman" during the war and is now about 94, here are a few pics of that exhibit.

These two trucks were recovered from the desert after war and Bert was contacted by the war office and it was requested that he drive them to their final resting place at Duxford, this he did with great satisfaction.

The last couple pics are of Monty's team, Monty is far left and Bert is fourth from the left (1st row) The photo is not very good as it was taken from a display photo taken during the war, quality was quite poor at that time.

The last pic is of Bert in 2007 at a function in Bournemouth UK.

Well done GPS Phil, excellent photo, I received an email some time back in which you could do a virtual trip around that museum.

A few more of a resting Blackbird, seen at Duxford Air Museum (UK), sorry about the blurring on some, but it was a busy there that day and I had to "snap" rather than photograph, I will return to Duxford and take some better pics, I do like the Blackbird SR71, the pics were taken on a Fuji 6900 (auto)

An argument for semi auto for home defense.

I live in The UK, we have a saying over here (perhaps also in the States ?) that an "Englishman's home is his castle" so if you say in days gone by, "Raise the drawbridge" that must be the same as saying "shut the front door". Then technically you should be safe inside ?
We had an incident here in the UK a few years ago on a fairly remote farm, a villain broke into the farm late at night, but didn't realise that he had woken the farmer, the farmer grabbed his shotgun and chased the villain out the door, whilst still on his property the farmer fired and hit the villain in the leg. It went to court and the farmer was sent to prison for some time (cant remember how long ?) and was subsequently sued by the villain for his injuries, and I seem to recall that the villain won the day. How wrong is that !!!!

Hi Peeps, I'm 66 and reside in Essex, UK, just by the Thames, my interests are motor cycling (current bike is a Yamaha Vmax 1200 V4), fishing (sea fishing), shooting (shot guns) and of course photography.

I like old architecture, churches, cathedrals, castles and the like. I'll sieve through the years and see what I can up with.

My day to day camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC LZ3, quite a nice little pocket size, my other camera is the Fuji 6900, but can be a little bulky. hope to meet you through the posts
Alan
