You can get a license that covers more models at a higher cost

I am new to raw editing, but have decided to go down the Capture One Pro 20 route. Bought it with a 25% discount for a Nikon only license. I love it. I find it easy to use and the on line tutorials are great. While I bought editing software for raw use I’m amazed at how much can be done with jpeg files. Now going back and editing my catalogue of jpegs. I know Lightroom/Photoshop seems to be the go to for most people, but I wasn’t happy paying a monthly fee. I have also read some blogs that suggest that Lightroom/Photoshop is more geared towards for graphic design editing. I have to say that some of the pictures I see from Photoshop seem to be moving away from the pictures actually taken to a form of art. Try all the free downloads to see what works best for you, but bear Capture One in mind. Good luck.

I only use my 1.4 on my 300f4 pf. As far as I’m concerned it just doesn’t perform well enough on the super zooms or even my 500pf.

I have it. I mainly shot wildlife. Occasionally I find I’m too close to my subject. I have the option of a 200-500, but the 500PF has not left my camera since I got it. It’s a great lens and with a bit of moving around you usually always get your shot.

I have used Duracell batteries as a backup in my D7200, but they wouldn’t work in my D500 when I changed camera. Had a bad experience using cheaper batteries in an Olympus on holiday which ended up with us spending a lot of time sourcing a genuine Olympus batteries. I feel just got a D850 and no way am I going to try third party batteries in that. When it comes to batteries I would say got for originals every time

Thank you all for the responses. Plenty of food for thought. Is there anyone who Has extensive experience in Raw editing who is using Capture One Pro 20. If so I would be interested to hear what they think of it.

I am new to editing Raw photos. I shoot mainly Wildlife, but have just bought a Nikon D850 to shoot more landscapes(by the way I’m finding it even better for wildlife than my D500). I have been playing around with some of the free software(Capture NX-D), but have found it limited for my use. I have got a copy of Affinity(an impulse buy as it was half price),but have not really got to grips with it yet. Recently, I have downloaded a trial of Capture One Pro 20 and with a bit of reading up and a few on-line tutorials I’m finding it really easy to use and am very impressed by its sharpening and noise reduction capabilities. My question is, if I go down the Capture One route am I missing out on anything extra that Lightroom or Photoshop have to offer.

It is a great lens, very underrated in my view as it is a practical lens in terms of weight and focal lengths for wildlife travel photography, but it Does need good light otherwise it will hunt focus and chatter!

That’s interesting. I wonder if the quality of the lens made in Japan is better than the one from Thailand.

I am looking to buy a secondhand Nikon 16-35 f4. I have found a couple of possibilities. However, one lens has an engraved six digit serial number starting with a 2xxxxx and the other has a sticker with a six digit number that starts with a 4xxxxx. Is it too simplistic to conclude that the lens with a serial number that starts with a 4 is a newer? Also interesting that on the lens with a serial number staring with a 2 the number is engraved, while on the other it is a sticker. I assume that if the lens with the higher serial number is newer then the sticker is a cost saving exercise by Nikon.

I currently use a Nikon D500 and shoot mainly wildlife. While the camera is very good for other uses, I have always wanted a Full Frame camera and am planning to get a Nikon D850. I will keep the D500 for Wildlife and will look to use the D850 for Landscape and Wildlife. My question is what is the best lens for Landscape. I currently have a range of Zoom and Prime lenses(200-500, 80-400, 500 and 300)and a few other lenses(16-85 DX, 35, and a 18-300). I have looked at the 24-70 f2.8E, which seems to get mixed reviews for the money and the size of the lens seems to mean that expensive filters(Lee system) are the main option to maintain quality. The 24-120 has a greater range, but I am worried that the quality may not be as good as the 24-70. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can I reformat one of the Mac formatted drives to Windows format then copy across the jpeg and raw files from the other drive. Once I have the files on a Windows formatted drive can I then reformat the other drive to Windows and copy the files back over?
