The soccer pictures were taken during a tournament that my grandson's team played in this fall. The first picture is of my grandson. Soccer offers so many opportunities to stop action. Camera is a Nikon D5100, lens is a kit Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-300 1:4.5-5.6 G ED VR. Pictures were taken in Sport mode.

Great captures!

In July 2012 I happened to spot the hawk using the neighbor's bird bath. I grabbed the camera, went out the back door, walked around front, and started taking pictures. The pictures of the hummer were taken through the patio door. The plant is a Vermillionaire sitting on my patio.

Great motion stoppers everyone. I went to a volleyball game in Austin a week ago Friday. I'm not real happy with the results. Had to push the ISO really high to shoot f/8 at 1/250 seconds. Probably needed a tripod or at least a monopod. Anyway....

Wonderful sport to shot motion....one that kind of gives a little more time to frame up the shot
Also one of my favorite sports to play...
Nice captures...great memories

Wonderful Challenge! To go along with this challenge my employer has "moved" my schedule from second shift to first shift for this week and then next week I start training for a new position (back again on second shift), so along with the change of season I'm having a little change going on myself...
This past Saturday had an opportunity to actually exchange my photography skill for a free train ride...first "paid" gig! Here are a few captures, some not just of moving subjects but while being the moving subject...

Keeping in mind PORTRAIT it's #1.
That one says "portrait" while all the
others say grab shot or family snap.

I don't find the message of stranger
vs friend vs new acquaintance to be
transmitted. The three with the face
visible could all represent any of the
three relationships. But again it's #1
if "portrait" is important.

I had the same feeling but since I've never really captured a "portrait" though I have done a little street and captured strangers...this assignment required me to approach a stranger and ask to photograph them...I was at a community day and this gentleman was walking down the street with an antique bicycle I had taken a few from afar and as he approached I asked may I please take your photograph he willingly agreed and handed me one of his business cards I took just this one shot and he moved on to catch up with his other companions; the b&w was the result of me asking if I could photograph and the gentleman stated that he would rather not have his face "out there" and I suggested the silhouette in the doorway, thinking that it too could qualify as a portrait the other two were just street performers that the moment they saw the camera stopped to be photographed kind of giving me also that "grab" rather than a portrait feel upon review. Thank you for your assistance...

So, what I figured out so far is that posting an
image that matches a song in your mind, is a heck
of a lot easier than guessing what was in someone
else's mind....lol

Try another one I think is easy, but...

Oh, now that's a challenge within a challenge. And if you only knew
how challenging it is for me to remember anything let alone names
of songs we sang 50+ years ago, AND remember the name of the
artist, it becomes a truly challenging challenge.

Thanks for hosting, Vicki. Not sure if I'll be able to make any
intelligent guesses, but hope I can come up with some images
that remind me of songs from a while back....

Let's start with a really, really easy one...

A great song! I can visualize us all as young adults sitting around the camp fire a bit tipsy and singing quite loudly (and I'm sure off tune as well!) AND playing it on the eight track! Awesome memory, thanks Vicki great idea for a challenge!
