I have a photo of a wave crashing against some rocks but the sky behind the wave is too bright and washed out. I am using Affinity Photo to make adjustments but I am not that versed with all the methods used to refine photos. Any critique/comments/advice as to how to tone down the sky without affecting the rest of the photo would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My question revolves around the EV values and settings. According to the the EV table for a heavy overcast day using a lens set to f8 and ISO 100 the shutter speed should be 1/60 sec. At this setting the photograph appears almost black. The camera meter shows the shutter speed should be set to 1/4 to 1/2 sec. with the photograph appearing more normal. If I adjust the lens to f4 at ISO 100 the EV table shows the shutter speed should be 1/250. The camera meter shows the shutter speed should be set to 1/3 sec. (not much different than the f8 reading. Is the EV table and/or PhotoPills wrong or does the camera use a different algorithm to calculate light sources? Any further thoughts?

I have already paired the lenses to the camera so when I use the 28mm f3.5 or the 50mm f2.0 etc... and tell the camera which lens is installed the camera responds accordingly.

I have some legacy pre-AI lenses that were used on a Nikon F camera during the 50's and 60's. I had them converted by John White, who I highly recommend, to adapt to a Nikon D750. The lenses work quite well with the D750 and I am more than pleased with the results. My question is: When setting the scene the exposure values are off from the values suggested by PhotoPills. Case in point - The EV value for a bright overcast day is 13. For an aperture of F8.0 @ 100 iso the time value should be 1/125 sec. With those settings the exposure is way too dark. What appears natural is a setting of 1/20 of a sec. Is this a result of using pre-AI lenses on a DSLR? Thanks for your insight.

Thank you! Yours is the type of critique I was hoping for. I'm still a novice when it comes to photography with a lot still to learn, especially with regard to adjusting ISO, Aperture and shutter speed. We had a lot of driving left before settling in for the night so a lengthy setup with a tripod and time to frame a better shot was not an option at the time. I also realize the times you mentioned are about the time we were passing by when we came across the arch. I know that time of day is not ideal for landscape photography but it was what I had to work with. I will take your suggestions and see if I can improve on my next set up photos.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for the advice given for previous questions regarding non-AI lenses and a Nikon D750 purchase. I would like to also thank fellow member, Dennis Shaffer, for the incredible offer and sale to me of the D750. It is a wonderful camera. That said, I photographed one of the many arches near Moab, Utah with a non-AI 105mm, Auto ISO, 1/3200 sec. I shot these photographs hand held rather than using a tripod, thus the fast shutter speed. I also did some PP to enhance the white balance and mask in a more interesting sky. I have cropped the photographs three different ways and am asking about the clarity and quality of photos using the non-AI lens as well as aesthetics of the crop (which photo has the better crop). This is a down-and-dirty PP just for this post. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not chasing new models every year. The D750 will probably be my forever camera as it has all the features I am interested in and need for the photography I plan to do. I am really hesitant to buy a used model. The reviews I have read regarding refurbished models have been all over the board so I am reluctant to go that route as well.

This is a follow-up to a question I had recently regarding camera rental sites. First of all I appreciated all the response and help I received. This question is posed to those of you who have purchased Nikon cameras in the past, especially at a time new models are being released. As previously mentioned, I am interested in a D750 and have plans to use it on an upcoming vacation. The Nikon Rumors website suggests to wait purchasing this camera as new models will be coming out in the near future. The D750 is currently listed at $1696. My dilemma is this, to rent the camera will cost me about $200. If the price of the camera is reduced by only about $200 it is a wash. I would purchase the camera now instead of renting and waiting. If the price of the camera reduces $300 - $400 or more then it might be prudent to rent now and wait for the price drop. For those of you who have bought a camera after new models are released, realistically, on average how much do Nikon prices drop? This is my first foray into this so I have no clue what to expect. Thanks in advance for your response.

Anybody have experience using LensGiant? Their prices are $30.00 less expensive for a 10 day rental. Should I be concerned due to the disparity?

I would like to try out a Nikon D750 on a future trip. Unfortunately, I missed out on the great deals Nikon/Adorama/B&H had a couple of weeks ago on the D750. Any suggestions or preferences for Camera Rental sites or stores? Thanks!
