I love the photos. The third photo appears to show the train coming into Alamosa. I know there were narrow gauge tracks in Alamosa but was unaware that the Durango Silverton train went to Alamosa. Would love an explanation! (I went to Adams State in the 60's and have old B&W pictures of the steam engines taken there.

In terms of your request for suggested backup methods, perhaps you should transition to cloud backup. I realize that this can be considerably more expensive, but the likelihood of losing images is very small.

He also has a good book on iPhone photography. Many useful hints. I took a free Apple photography class a few days ago and found it useful, as well.

is your equipment listed on a valuable item, or a personal property floater? I have never heard of any company not covering theft, or even "mysterious disappearance," coverage under that. My coverage, USAA, even covers stupidity, as in dropping the camera, etc. It is really very cheap coverage as well.

Same is true for my Amica policy.

Just format the card on your computer. That’s what the card makers suggest

My understanding is that most camera manufacturers recommend formatting cards in the camera the card is going to be used in, not on your computer.

Good point on consideration of 'replacement value'!!

Totally agree. That is why they asked for an appraisal. If the equipment's value is more than you paid for it, than the appraisal would establish that fact.
In buying new equipment, the value/replacement cost is well established. I doubt seriously that any insurance company would insure used equipment for the value of a new replacement.

OK I pulled the trigger on the new computer, delivery on Friday. I am getting mixed information from various computer repair sites on weather I can just move the system (C) drive from my old computer and put it in the new computer or if I have to reinstall all my software on the new system disk and essentially start over.

My real concern is Lightroom Classic. I really don't want to rebuild a 10,000+ catalog. The LR files and the Backup Catalog are maintained on a 4TB external drive. Any information, links, etc. will surly be appreciated

I think you would be making a horrible mistake trying to move the operating system from your old pc, particularly if that computer is not running properly. You risk importing the problems to the new computer. I would bite the bullet and reinstall the programs on the new computer. As for Lightroom, there are many online videos on how to reinstall Lightroom on the new computer and move all your files. I don't think it is as difficult as you are making it sound, particularly since the LR files and Backup are on an external hard drive. Once you install Lightroom on the new computer, you can simply plug the external drive into the new computer and use those files in the same manner you have been using them.

Check out the Canon Powershot Elph series. Small, pocketable and great image quality along with 10Z zoom and image stabilization. The Elph 330 hs is one of the best.

Will do. Thanks.

Didn't have a fixed amount in mind, but the price of the one you suggested is doable. Thanks for the suggestion.

My 9 year old Grandson seems to be developing an interest in photography. He has taken some nice pictures with his Mom's i-Phone. He seems to enjoy taking some in B&W. It being the season for gifts, I was looking for suggestions for a good first camera. Probably a compact point & shoot. Something like an Olympus Tough series crossed my mind because it is more or less indestructible. On the other hand, it is not very compact. Thoughts?

Hi All - I have a 27" mid-2011 iMac i7 with 16GB RAM running High Sierra that I'm trying to use as a second display with a new PC whose video card has only HDMI (2) and Displayport (2) video connectors (GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ELITE 8GB GDDR6 PCI Express). The instructions I've seen online for using the iMac as a second display are mostly for using an iMac as a target (secondary) display with another Mac as primary (not a PC as primary, as I'm trying to do), and using Thunderbolt connectors on both ends. My video card has HDMI and Displayport connectors only. I've tried using both the DisplayPort connection and the HDMI connection on the PC video card, and get nothing on the iMac. Also the instructions online for using the iMac as a "Target Display" say to use the F2 key to activate Target Display mode on the iMac, and this yields nothing (no change on screen). I suspect that that's because it wants two Thunderbolt connectors joining the iMac and another computer, but am just guessing. Anyone have any thoughts, experience or suggestions on a possible solution? Thanks for any help!
Kevin

Apple support is excellent and usually free. Why not give them a call? They may tell you it is impossible, but then you will know that is the answer.
