Suggest a visit to the Frontier Culture Museum just off I-81 South. About 1.5 hours from Skyland. Chronicle's the settling of the Shenandoah valley by Irish, German and English settlers. Replica houses for each settler. In fact German government shipped over and assembled an old German farm house with outbuildings. Also some heritage animals displayed. You'll enjoy Skyland, beautiful views, good food, good service. Just watch "sight seeing" while driving.
