Do it your own way! I am not a professional photographer and never will be! Upon retirement I invested and continue to invest is quality equipment. Maybe it is my age but I shoot almost exclusively with a RRS tripod since it gives me a better quality image. I highly advise you to learn Lightroom shooting Raw if you don't do that now. The processing will give you results that you will not believe you could produce! That said, do what you enjoy!

I use a 27" MAC. I found a V700 epson scanner that I had forgotten I had. Think that will work well? It has accessories for various sized slides and negatives.

Thank you so much for all the input! Does anyone scan the negatives and convert? If so what software? I have 35mm up to 4X5 negatives.

What is the best way to digitalize old photos, slides, and negatives. I am new to the Hog so I know it has been asked before but I missed it. Is there a way to scan the negatives and convert them to files to develop? If so what software do your use? Any suggestions as to the best scanners available for digitalizing? Sorry for the repeat!!

What is the best way to make a digital copy of old photos, scan them, take digital pictures of them? I am currently going through the old prints and throwing away most of them because the quality I see is poor compared to my digital ones. I basically am keeping only some for reference or a moment that I can not go back and capture.

Took everything to Alaska years ago and only used Cannon 70-200 2.8 and wide angle zoom (don't remember which one I used). If you can arrange a fly in trip to Brooks Falls if there is still a salmon run you won't regret it. I got some great Brown Bear pictures there in July!

You might be able to buy a programmable adaptor. I got a Metabones adaptor for my Canon lenses and they almost seem to focus faster than on my Canon body.

A wise and better photographer than I once told me that you are married to your lenses and are only dating the body. Which means that the lenses should be the best you can afford because the will last a long time but as the camera bodies change you only will keep the body until you think there is a big advantage to changing.
