Delighted to hear that your situation turned out for the better. I love my Canons and have been blessed with no issues, ever and pray it stays that way.

I could have written this. I've had Canons for a lot of years, "had no issues, ever." I don't use 'em like I used to - I'm 91 now and slowing down a little (OK, OK, a lot <g>) but they've been trouble free for a long time. Of course, I handle them pretty carefully. I still have my 12mp 5Dc, used it just the other day.

Ebay has become a free-for-all for scammers. Try selling something. It takes 3 or 4 times not to get a transaction canceled. And between closing an auction and buyer paying, you will get 5 emails from someone claiming to be the buyer asking you to ship elsewhere.
I just sell to mpb.com now. Make a little less, but no fees and no scamming.

I use Ebay for things you don't have to repair - like CDs or books. I shoot Canons and have never needed to repair one. Of course, I never dropped one either.

I bought my first one while in Korea whilst on duty. Gave it away eventually to a young friend who wanted to try photography. Dunno why I picked Canon over Nikon, dumb luck I guess; or more likely, availability in the PX at the time. Harry

I do not see why anyone would think about anything if one has not used/purchased these cameras...

Just saying.

"a camera that is so expensive, you can not relax enough to enjoy shooting the camera" ???????????
Wow! What a weird argument that means nothing at all.

I am not going to purchase and drive a RR because I may get in an accident??? WOW!!! That is new one.

Yep, I drove my 911 like it was a Mustang. No worries, just fun. I paid $4,000.00 for a pointer bitch, put 7 championships on her. Most field trial grounds have roads close enough to be dangerous. Guess I should never have run her. Too dangerous! Harry

Here is a reminder for UHH members thinking about photographing in major cities…especially on the West Coast. https://petapixel.com/2022/02/19/dangerous-places-in-san-francisco-for-photographers-and-cameras/ I think a special mental note deserves attention when staying at motels and hotels and leaving equipment in the vehicle. Also, makes one wonder how secure many of the paid parking garages are for gear. Many vans don’t have trunks. I never carry my camera with a major camera ID neck strap when walking around. Of course, thieves can spot pro level gear from a distance. It ain’t Disneyland out there.

So I will ask you just what make a photog seriously pursuing photography rather than one not seriously pursuing photography?

Not sure that I could answer that question but I can say that I take pictures with a camera (I hesitate to call myself a "photographer" these days and shoot rarely and for my own enjoyment.) and so I am certainly not "seriously pursuing photography." I have two other rather expensive hobbies that I seriously pursue so I certainly understand the difference between "seriously pursuing" and "not seriously pursuing" to the tune of $10,000.00 or so a year for the last 10-12 years. At one point in my life I was taking pictures of theatre and dance and even selling a few both to amateurs and professionals. At that time I was seriously pursuing photography imho.

Harry
PS Even if I had never sold any, I believe that I was still seriously pursuing photography at that time as it was the most important thing in my non - working life. Well, that and sex! <g> (I was a college professor at Ohio State in them days.)

[quote=Craigdca] "I’m about to invest in my next camera setup to replace my Canon T2i. I’m not attached to the lenses which are the old 17-55 and 55/250 kit lenses that probably came with it, older 1998? Tokina EF 80-400mm and also really old Tamron EF 70-200? Lens.

So it’s a new start."

When I moved to digital, I went with Canon for some unknown reason. Up 'till then, I had never owned a Canon. I now have several bodies and plenty of glass. I'm too lazy to go count them but certainly more than a half dozen. Can't say I'll never switch but it would sure take a lot to convince me. Harry

"Then we'd go and have a beer!"

Or maybe a single malt. I remember once in Scotland, the bartender was a big man who was probably tending bar before I was born. I asked him if he had a favorite single malt and he said "Yes" so I asked him to pour three. After drinking, I asked him if he had another he liked and again the answer was "Yes" so I asked him to pour three more. After drinking that I turned to my friend Charlie Harbut and said, "Those were pretty good, let's take the afternoon and try all he's got." The bartender then said, "Ah young man, I don't think you'll be doing that." And when I asked hin why he said, "Because I have over 100 of them." So we laughed and agreed with him - and had another. :-) Harry

I am simply very curious to learn from my fellow members ... how many enjoy post-processing as much as taking the picture snap? Post-processing ... like a lot? Post-processing ... don't like it at all?

I do very little post processing. I've been taking pics for over 50 years and apparently I've learned enough to not need it much. So obviously, I don't enjoy it. I'll spend my time shooting not sitting on my a$$ in my office. When I started, my post processing pretty much consisted of telling my lab where to crop! Or maybe pushing Tri X to 800 when I was shooting stage movement. :-) Harry

"I'd recommend a 27" iMac with at least 32G of RAM. It might run a bit more than your stated budget but it will be worth it."

Things are probably different now but years ago my employer bought a bunch of Macs and I got one. I always had trouble getting the programs I needed and so switched to an PC which I used with no problems. I liked that Mac though but with Windows the transition was simple. Harry PS And I'd get 64G of RAM, just in case. :-)

My friend, pro Charlie Harbut used a normal Leica lens for everything. If he needed a close up of a bear, he got close to a bear. I followed him to the top of tall buildings, down rivers in a canoe etc. Then we'd go and have a beer! :-)

Ever hear of a new kind of lens that companies are pimping? I think it's called a "telephoto" or something like that. I don't own one but I'm told that they can bring faraway things up close. Harry
