I knew the various devices like Alexa and Echo are always listening to receive a command and that there is evidence that key words not intended to activate the device will trigger a listening session -- even if the right word is at times taken out of context the device will become active. For this reason I do not or will not own one of these units. Now the freaky thing: Somehow my conversations are being monitored without any of these. A couple of days ago my daughter asked me if I had a really strong magnet. She is sewing masks for co-workers at the hospital where she works and a couple of her sewing machine needles slipped into a narrow slot in the table she is using. This morning I received an ad stating they sold the strongest magnets in the marketplace! This was a 10 sec. conversation and I did have a magnet strong enough to do the job so neither of us inquired about such on line. This kind of makes me paranoid and normally am not that way!

Interesting, I have Alexa all over the house with various Echo devices and do not get any ads showing up in my phone, computer or mail.
I use Ring for home security, tied to Alexa so that really brings Amazon into my home.
I shop from Home using Amazon more than any other online service.
I just do not see any of this activity. Perhaps I am blind to it.
Perhaps I should walk around the house indicating that I need a million dollars and see what pops up!

To be real, all of your activity on the internet is monitored even if you use a VPN and TOR browser.
You do not have any privacy and to think you do is just naive.
No sense getting paranoid now. It's been this way for decades.

I shot the EF 75-300 for years, happily, both hand-held and from a tripod or monopod. It's a starter lens with a starter camera. This lens is a useful entry-level focal length. I'd go back in time and adjust my technique on this image, if I could. Like most things in photography, it's the limitations of the photographer, not the equipment, that most directly impacts the results.

Two questions:

1- When did you start taking pictures
2- When was this taken?

Also appears to want an ILC DSLR type of camera.

The Refurb T7 and lens fit the bill nicely and under budget.

I bought the Canon T7 in November specifically for a trip to Alaska, and also just to get back into taking pictures . I posted photos a while back from that trip. I was second guessing myself a bit and thought the Nikon D5600 might have been a better choice. (All the reviews say the pictures the Nikon produces have extreme clarity) But assuming I stay with the T7, since I have had the chance to get used to the camera a little bit, I was wondering if you'll could recommend some things that might enhance my picture taking. Lens, filters, lens hood, etc.

I found a Canon 70-300mm IS USM lens at Abes for about $345. Would that take better pictures then the lens that came with the camera because it has the IS? I started down this road in someone else's thread but didn't want to hijack that persons discussion, so I am starting a new one here. If it helps, my interests in photos include, but not limited to, scenic landscapes, mountains, canyons, beaches, nature/ wildlife, basically, whatever scene might make a good picture.
Thanks.
Earl

Can we assume you have the 75-300mm lens?
Can we also assume you saw the 70-300 IS USM II lens?

If both assumptions are correct, you will get much better results from the 70-300 IS USM II lens. The results will continue to get better as you get better as a photographer.

Regarding Abes, you have been given the answer.
Google "Canon Price Watch" for legit offers from legit sources on all things Canon Camera.

You need to start by defining your budget. All other decisions will be based on that.

"Auto ISO is simply a tool and can be incredibly beneficial if you know how to use it. The only autoexposure mode I use when shooting wildlife is Manual + Auto ISO. This allows me to set the shutter speed and F/stop while the camera floats the ISO."

Be sure to watch the video (linked in the comments).

This is very handy out in the woods where you do not have control of the light and want to shoot fast moving animals.

Second buying used! Try Roberts Camera/Used Photo Pro. They have a Canon Rebel EOS T3i 18 mp body for $155 and a Canon 70-200 lens for $69. Well within your budget, older but that's the camera I started with years ago, and my favorite "walk around" everyday lens. There are lots of Nikons & other brands as well, I just don't personally have any experience with them... be sure to check Used Photo Pro by Roberts Camera - google it for the URL. ENJOY!!!

Someone may have already corrected this, however the lens for $69.00 is the EF75-300 ugh!

Looking at Kaydence's intro post, "Hi guys, just want to introduce myself, I'm Kaydence and this is my first forum that I have ever used. I am energized to be on here and learn more about photography. I got into photography a couple years ago and ever since I've tested out new stuff like take pictures of animals, people and plants. Most of my pictures are portrait".

The T3i was my first ILC and I loved it.

The EF75-300 is not really the best choice. Infact, IMHO, the EF75-300 is not the best choice for anyone.

And which lens is that?

All versions of the Canon EF 75-300mm lens are terrible.

The EF-70-300 f4-5.6 IS II USM is a really good lens, and it is cheap.
It focuses as fast as an L lens and has really good IQ.
It is lightweight as well.
Canon has it refurb for $398.00

Hi PHRubin - I was just wondering why you would avoid the 75-300 mm lens that comes with the T7? Is it because it has no Image Stabilization or because of the limited Aperture settings? I have the T7 with this lens and although it takes pretty good pictures, I am second guessing myself now as to whether I should have gone with the Nikon D5600. If I were to keep the T7 and replace the 75-300mm lens that came with the camera, what would you recommend I buy instead. Thanks for any input you could provide.

The Canon Version of that lens is terrible. Always has been.
Canon makes a very affordable 70-300mm lens that is killer.
Some would say it is a "Sleeper", or at least I would.

I think people are taking the OP's comment too literally. The OP does not say looking "more professional" is the ONLY reason. I put much more stress on the "my iPhone 6s it just doesn't have all the settings that I want" The OP's primary concern is control. And that is a great reason to make the switch.

And, be honest, didn't you like the feeling of being a little "more professional" when you got your first "real" camera?

I know I did.

Hi guys, I was wondering what is the best brand out there for a beginner camera? I have never had my own camera I usually use my friends or the camera from my phone.

Not going through all four pages of suggestions, here are some thoughts:

Refurbished EOS Rebel T7 EF-S 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 IS II, at the Canon on line store $320.00
Same camera/lens new at B&H $399.00

Google "Canon Price Watch".
Great Resource.

It makes some logical sense, however it doesn't take into account wind direction and intensity.

The article states "On the basis of these results the scientist advises that for walking the distance of people moving in the same direction in 1 line should be at least 4–5 meter, for running and slow biking it should be 10 meters and for hard biking at least 20 meters". "When you are positioned diagonally behind each other the risk is also smaller to catch the droplets of the lead runner. The risk of contamination is the biggest when people are just behind each other, in each other’s slipstream". This however assumes the wind is light and/or the lead runner has a head wind. What if there is a cross wind? What if the runners have a tail wind?

The article and perhaps the study is incomplete or flawed. The article clearly states the study and animation is usually used to measure and improve the performance of athletes. "Normally this type of modelling is used to improve the performance level of athletes as staying in each other air-stream is very effective". For this to be effective, the runners intentionally run very close to one another where wind strength and direction have less of an impact.

I'm in the process of selling a camera and lens to them. I tried first on eBay but the only offers that I got were scams so I decided to sell to them. What they offered was about half of what eBay prices were for the same kit. They have had my camera for about ten days and I'm still waiting for a check. They say that because of the virus their operations are slow

This is probably legit. When eq. comes in, it is checked out to make sure it is actually in the stated condition.
This requires people to be at their site.
With the virus, they are most likely understaffed.

If you are concerned, cancel the sale and request that your gear be sent back.
