Nice trout😊

I’ll take your word for it. I don’t fish so they all look alike to me.

Nice captures. Didn’t know eagles ate their fish whole.

They will do that with small ones

Enchanting elegance... Epic sequence...
Have you considered cropping tighter? The background simply doesn't add to the narrative here.

Excellent composition... Your wise choice of vantage works well to produce Side Illumination... i.e. Dimensional relief... which breaths life into this two dimensional rendering...

Also please consider boosting contrast and color saturation with a healthy "S" curve...
Deep Shallows are your friend here. btw, you've lost a tad of detail in her blown out blond hair highlights...
Please consider "Expose to the Right" next time... Always check your Histograms... experience is a brutal teacher...

That said, avoid "In Camera" HDR... It will cripple your frame rate...
Always best to Avoid Any In Camera Processing and use third part HDR solutions instead...

Final thoughts? You're way too far back for the optics you've deployed....either get closer, or get longer faster glass... Being a Nikon shooter in this scenario I cherish the classic AF 180mm f/2.8 which is tack sharp even wide open (at f/2.8) Or even better yet get closer with an AF 85mm f/1.4...

Hope this helps... Thank you so much for sharing, brings back many wonderful days on the red clay...
Totally Love the sport... played in for many years... Please keep shooting/sharing... Many Many Thanks!

Thomas,
Thanks for your reply and comments. I appreciate your recommendations for improvement. I just noticed this reply last night or I would have replied earlier.
On cropping; I assume you mean into more of a portrait mode. I wanted to keep her whole body in the shot or are you recommending cropping in tighter on the body?
I was sitting netside with a 70-200 lens so I don’t think I was too far away. Should I shoot tennis vertically? I have started to do this with basketball if I get courtside.
These were taken mid afternoon on a sunny day so I actually tried to reduce contrast to soften the harsh shadows. Mistake??
I have followed your work on here and you give very insightful comments on others’ work. Again, I thank you for the suggestions to make things better.

Yes she is playing a mandolin and we all play country, bluegrass and some older rock and roll. Hubby plays the electric, I play the acoustic. Peggy plays the mandolin and keyboard and her hubby plays an electric and bass.

Fun way to pass the time on a cold wintery day!

That sure looks like a ukelele she’s playing. Looks like 4 tuning pegs. I believe a mandolin has 8. I may be wrong.

Thanks for your response. I hope you will let us know what you find out.

I got the firmware updated. Took it out to shoot eagles and got maybe a slight improvement. Funny how shooting an eagle flying by at 20 frames per second I can get sharp; soft; sharp on 3 successive shots.
Last night I reset my settings and will try again this afternoon.
I should say that I do get some incredibly sharp photos; just not as many as I think I got when viewing. A video I watched last night mentioned some softness can be caused by rolling shutter. I have set the R7 from electronic to first curtain electronic as that is supposed to help some on possible rolling shutter.
We will see.

Sorry, posted wrong link for fix for 1.2.0 firmware video

https://youtu.be/JblJFQcZFu4

I just watched this video last night. I bought an R7 last week and have used it twice on eagles. Quite disappointed with the focusing which the video talks about. The soft to totally out of focus shots is quite high. The R7 came with software 1.1.0 installed.
I have shots where focus point is right on eagle’s head and the shot is out of focus. I was using R7 with Canon EF 500 mm f/4. Almost all shots were sharp when that lens was used with R6.
I did get some sharp shots with the R7 but only about 50%. I was shooting at f/5.6 and shutter between 1/2500 and 1/4000 so can’t figure out what is going on. Going in to see dealer today and try to figure it out.

Much better action when very cold, like over Christmas when temps near zero. Been much warmer so they can find open water all up and down the river. When the river freezes over, the lock and dams are only area of open water.
