There it is. They sure hid it and don't give any way of locating it. Thanks a million Paul, you win the cupie doll and my eternal gratitude. Even the help line at Canon had no idea what I was talking about and my manual doesn't say anything about it.

So I am not the only victim of a poorly written instruction manual AND an uneducated tech support dept. Glad to see you got around it and that CHG_CANON was able to help. Posting your problem here will often get you usefull help as well as plenty of cheap shots and wise guys. Pardon my late reply,,, I am backlogged in my reading.

The unprocessed image is not worth sharing.

I have a hard time digesting this thought of yours. Are you saying a picture taken right out of the camera, without post processing via photolab or some other technique, is unworthy in and of itself?

Does it? Does it look better than your edited digital image? Could it look better? Could it be easier to share those images beyond connecting the camera to the TV. The wisdom of the UHH community focuses on using edited images onto a USB drive or wireless share. Hence, the dismissal of your alternative approach.

Don't do ANY post processing. No flash, no tripod (almost never). My purpose is not to synthesize in pursuit of some artificial perfection, but rather to achieve the essence of verite.

I was interested in discussing photography scams. I certainly do not want to talk about politics and I certainly did not intend to make a racial comment. If you took offense I am sorry.

Actually I don't know what kind of camera you have but with my Nikon Df doing it your way only give me 1920x1080i on a big TV. What do I need big TV for when the resolution isn't there. With the USB thumb drives I get 3840x2180p. With my laptop screen I even get 2560x1600p still better than your way. So if your camera can provide better resolution on the TV screen it would hurt my feelings.

I have no idea what my TV resolution is, but it looks better than my camera LCD or computer monitor.

And yet, if you just drop your images, especially your edited images, onto a USB drive in a single folder, your TV likely can read and display those images in a default slideshow based on multiple criteria, including filename and / or date.

As said in another comment, recreating a square and calling it a wheel is really nothing to do with nothing relevant. No wonder the experts at Canon laughed at you. Submit your paper to the Ig Nobel Jury and see if they see things differently.

Why go thru the trouble of buying USB drives? Just leave the cable in the TV and connect it to the camera whenever you like. If you already have the drives, and utilize them in this way, then I can understand your doing it like that. I don't have any USB drives, or care to.

Hey BEB, we are discussing THIS thread... He made NO mention of previous threads... Are we supposed to read EVERY thread on the HOG so we can respond PROPERLY to the one posted ? If you read EVERY post on the hog you have a lot more time on your hands than me.

You are correct in that I should have kept it all in one post. It added confusion.

This is what he said originally

"Specifically, I want to take a new SD card and dedicate it to have all of my pics from various other SD's so I can hook up my camera to the TV and do the slide show thing. My difficulty is in moving old pics from old SD's from the computer files where they are stored to the new SD. When I make the moves everything seems OK until I put the SD into the camera, and I find anywhere from a few to none of the pictures there. Yet according to the computer they are there. So what's up here? It can be done, because I somehow or another got 2 folder fulls there, but I can't figure out how to reliably do this. Cmon Hoggers, help me with this! Thanks"

He wanted to use his camera as slide projector and he rejected the use of USB thumb drive plugged directly to the TV and insisted on using SD card in his camera.
This is what he said originally br br "Speci... (show quote)

I think I hurt your feelings when I rejected the use of USB thumb drives. Do you own stock in them ??

Original post is kind of confusing... I didn't read where OP was attempting anything in camera... Slide projector with Sd input is interesting but modern day slide projectors are called " Big Screen TV ". Most have projector features which access pics from a memory stick in USB port.

For the sake of clarity.... we are dealing with 3 items only. 1. your computer with all of your images on it. 2. Your camera with its SD card, and a feature that allows it to read the SD card and use it like a slide projector, displaying the images for the seconds you have specified and then moving to the next. 3. Your TV, which needs an HDMI connection. Presumably your TV is larger than your computer monitor. Nothing mysterious or too complex, it works just fine.

Did you read his actual proposal? Your logical approach is not what was actually attempted.

For the sake of clarity, this is my proposal...... (it assumes you have your images in folder(s) on your computer).... 1. Put an empty SD card in computer's card reader slot. 2. On your computer..... add images to new folder(s) you have created according to theme, subject or whatever you like. 3. On your computer...... rename these new folders according to Canon's requirements (101ABCDE 102HIJKL, where letters represent something relevant to you. I used NEWOR for New Orleans, GETTY for Gettysburg etc.) 4. Move or Copy entire folder to Canon's camera folders section. Use Copy/Paste or Drag & Drop. 5. Take SD out of computer and put in your Canon camera. 6. Connect camera to TV using HDMI cable. 7. Turn on camera (TV will automatically switch to HDMI input) 8. Go to camera menu and select folder and slide show features. That is all there is too it. A lot of confusion was created at first because I didn't have all of my camera images named the way Canon originally named them. IMG_1234.jpg (or .CR if raw). I have had a lot of criticism of this method, but NONE of it gave a logical, dispassionate reason why if was such a "bad idea".

My understanding of what the OP says he is doing, is that he's copying image files to an SD card to use in a projector.

If you have a projector that reads SD cards, then that seems perfectly reasonable to me. What makes it a "bad idea"? I do the same thing for SD cards that I then use in a picture frame.

Not for use in a projector but in the camera I took the pictures in, using Canon's "Select folder" and "Slide show" features. Hooked up to a TV with an HDMI connection. Very easy, if you already have pictures on your computer and named according to Canon's requirements. There are other ways. You decide what is right for you.

Ive hadda go through the same precise tedious file renaming protocol with audio files. Its a real PITA, definitely not the makings of a popular idea.

It is tedious if you have already renamed them once, altering Canon's naming of each image. However if you left those intact, the only renaming necessary is that of the folders.

She is not being sarcastic. Unlike you, she knows a joke when she hears one. And unlike you, she doesn't feel the need to diminish ideas she doesn't agree with.

The next the Ig Nobel Prize ceremony will happen on September 15, 2022. It might be too late to submit your application from the 'discovery' of your process, now discussed across multiple posts. Consider if your process is competitive against the 'ideas' of prior Ig Nobel winners:

Heck with the Nobel Prize. I don't need the money anyway, and I might not like the company of some of the winners.
