Tracphone, one year 99.00 I'm using Verizon towers and loving it. Minutes triple for smart phone, teXT included. No Brainer. Go ahead and pay Cricket 30 per month.

I'm gone visiting my family a lot and AT&T has always been reliable. The small town that I live in doesn't have a very good reception with verizon.

I have been with Cricket for about a year.I was told it is owned by AT&T. They use their towers and the coverage is good.
I have unlimited talk and text and 2 gig of data for $30 including tax. They sell phones there as well. I just changed from an android phone to an iPhone 6S that I bought there and am loving it.

Thank you for the information.

Check AT&T ‘My wireless’ on line. There you might find a refurbished I phone, or an internet only special. You could also check the apple site, there they have a ‘clearance/refurbished’ section as well. Th iPhone X is being discontinued as well, there might be a deal too. All depends on your budget, but there are selections.

Thank you for the info. I have a lot of checking to do.

By "giving up" you mean shortened battery life, then consider having the battery replaced. For that you need an Apple Store. I have the 5 and ever since I allowed the upgrade to iOS 11.x my battery life has shortened. Apple Store staff are trained to sell New but if you are insistant you can get a new battery. Do not buy their fossile arguments.

The battery life is still good, but it is always stuck on 100% until it goes dead. No warning. The cord is also getting bad.

Check this out: https://www.livingsocial.com/goods/cell-phones-and-accessories
Used iPhone 6 = under $200
Bigger screen, more featured than the 5, and relatively easy to use.
There are others on the site.

I looked at the page. Good buys. Have you or anyone you know done business with them? Thank you.

You might check out this web site, which I found mentioned in the AARP newsletter yesterday, in an article listing ways to save money:

I took only a very quick peek and saw they have a variety of iPhone 6 models in the $200-$300 range; they likely have other phones as well.

I looked here. It does seem to be a good option. Thank you for the link.

Wow...that is a good question. Again, my experience is with Verizon, but I would think AT&T would be similar. I live west of Tampa, in Pinellas Co. Florida. Around here, there are franchise stores in every town. We have two Verizon corporate offices.....one in St. Petersburg, and one in Clearwater....each about 30 minute drive from me. (There may be one in Tarpon Springs as well.)

In my case, I had received an email from Verizon about reduced prices on iPhone, no contract, lower monthly fee, etc. I went to the nearest Verizon store. They said they could not honor/duplicate that offer.....turns out it was a franchise store. They told me I needed to go to the corporate store....and told me where to find them.

I would do an internet search for AT&T in your area. Pick up the phone and call. Ask questions. Ask for any "deals" or special offerings....and ask which locations honor them. For a very small additional monthly amount, I also have the insurance on the phone. I had one stolen....and the insurance company had a brand new (unopened box) iPhone 7+ at my door the next morning.
Wow...that is a good question. Again, my experie... (show quote)

thank you. I will search for a corporate store.

I would recommend that you visit an AT&T (Corporate) store. In my case, Verizon carried a variety of older models at much reduced prices....as well as the newest models. I chose the iPhone 7 plus and am happy with it. If you are on a limited budget, you may want to consider paying for your phone over time. In the case of Verizon, there wacs no interest charge....just extended monthly payments that they add to my bill. At the end of three years (in my case), I will own it and the monthly charges will disappear from bill.

I said 'corporate store' because the local Verizon stores are franchise locations....and can't begin to offer packages that the corporate locations can.

Good luck.

How do I find a corporate store? I am over a hundred miles from a large city.

Ebay, Craigs List.

Wouldn't I be taking a chance of getting a stolen phone if I buy from eBay or Craigslist? That is my concern with that option.

You probably get the most bang for your buck right now on the IPhone 7 or 7 plus. Make sure you test them out to see what fits your hand better. The I phone Plus models are huge and heavy compared to your 5

If you like the size of the 5 then take a good look at the IPhone SE. it is the same size as the 5 but has updated technology.

I have the iPhone 5 only because it was a phone that my son no longer used and he gave it to me a few years ago. I would prefer a larger screen. My hand is large so fitting them to it is no problem.
Thanks for this information.

The best deals are going to be on 'older' models such as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus. The latest models, iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X are still pretty pricey. Best Buy has some deals on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus right now. You may get a pretty good price from AT&T online on those models as well. As you have probably discovered, if you go into the AT&T Store, they will likely only display the latest models and try to sell you one of those.

Thank you. I hadn't checked the store yet, but am glad to have this information.I will check with Best Buy.
