I have a D90 and have used it extensively. I bought a D810 with a 28-300 full frame Nikon lens a few years ago and love it! If you do go with the D810, I would recommend viewing some of the how-to videos on set-up and features of the D810. Good luck and have fun!

I grew up shooting B&W film...had my own darkroom...enjoyed it. But now, I enjoy it more...no more chemical mixing...worrying about temperature control, etc. Now I can focus (no pun intended) on getting it right, from pressing the shutter to post production work.
Take a trip to Weston, VT and visit the Vermont Country Store. It's a lovely drive down route 100 through small valleys and and mountain peaks.

King Harald Halvdansson (Fairhair") is my 30th grandfather. I visited the Viking Museum in Oslo two years ago and also traveled north to Lunner, Norway where I visited the family farm that my great-great grandfather left to come to America in 1868...the farm is sill in the family and I met 2nd cousins....a very cool experience!
I have found B&H to offer excellent customer service. As a retired HR executive, I also find that when a company treats employees poorly, it usually impacts negatively on customer experience. Have also been involved in discrimination allegations with the federal government, I can appreciated that an allegation seldom reflects the nature or character of a company. The cost of fighting against the feds for something that may be real or something distorted is a no-win scenario with legal fees running into the millions. I will not judge them.
I carry a D810...often with my 28-300 walk around lens. I use a sling strap and have taken it on may tours. Walking with it all day long and never feel weighed down as I did with a neck type strap.
I noticed that Costco has 500GB SSD external drives for $124....a bit pricey, but maybe well worth it in the long run. I too have had Seagate and LaCie failures.
Captures the northlands well. Iceland is a mysterious place with many photo opportunities. Norway is beautiful at every turn.

I took a similar trip and took my 28-300 Nikon lens. Good reach from the boat and when on land it was a nice all around use lens.
I visited some of the stations around Moscow a few years ago and they are beautiful, clean and elegant...and no litter.
