Post a clear picture, especially of the mount, so we can tell it it's an M42 Practica or T-mount.

Edit: Missed the "auto zoom" - it's not a T-mount!

Why could it not be a T mount? "Auto Zoom" on old lenses simply refers to the "auto" aperture that stops down on shutter release, if memory serves me.

Lest we forget Ripple.....drank a lot of that in the sixties when my military base pay was $137/mo and then $214 in 1969.

I remember the mid '60's when Ripple and Bali Hai were mainstays. I remember liquor stores in NYC kept coolers stocked with pints and everybody knew which stores never carded. 50 cents a cold pint with a brown bag. Life was great at 16, sometimes the hangovers were too. :-(

You sir, appear to have missed out on some of the finest varietal's to be adorned in a bag. Bali Hai and Ripple were legendary!

That's why I shoot both, for those rare occasions when I have to push the limits. But since I don't expose haphazardly with post processing in mind, my question is, how much will it effect a normal person, looking at a posted or printed, properly exposed image. By normal I mean someone not looking for pixels, but at the flower, landscape, bird, or whatever. Will it affect what they see.

It would all depend on how much PP you do.

I would also add that wine needs to be protected from light. Wine should ALWAYS be brown bagged!

The concept is fine, but making sure that people could only vote once needs some implementation logic behind it....

The bottom line is, it's probably a mute point as it probably could not be easily be implemented on this bulletin board anyway.

I have at least 2 Nikon MF lenses that stop down to f/32, although I have rarely, if ever, stopped down that low in 30+ years.

I also understand digital cameras are more prone to defraction issues though I haven't actually checked it for myself. Outside of macro work I don't see why it would be of any interest anyway. Rule of thumb I've adopted in digital is to limit stopping down to f/8 or f/11 unless there is a real compelling reason to stop down further.

Why would you rather carry an apple than a pumpkin...., just cause it's smaller?!?!
If I were to go into business, a pumpkin sure does have a lot more seeds in it..., WAY better for business!!!
SS

Apples and pumpkin both make great pie, but you can't make apple pie with pumpkins or pumpkin with apples. That pretty much sizes it up.

I have been using comcast for at least ten years, as my internet provider, No problems....untill 2 days ago.. All of a sudden, my mailing address and pass-word for same, have "disappeared" and after literally HOURS on the phone with them, I still have not been helped. They say they have no email address for me on there web. So now I have nothing, am I to believe that no-one else has had this happen to them? All of a sudden, I don't have an emailing address(no-one can send me mails, bills, etc) and I have no password either. I can neither send or receive email. And that is a big problem. I talked with,, Xfinity(comcast) someone in the phillipenes, two different times and an english speakin person, and many others, that have no record of me, my email address, password or anything..So far, still, unresolved. Xfinity x emails.

Never heard of that one. Are you SURE you have it right? Here's the thing, how does Comcast contact YOU? Your address is tied to your account and Comcast has to have it listed as your contact information. If the account is in your wife's name, then the email account management is on her end. Look into it and go from there.

Thanks "4-Eyes". I'm enjoying my new found freedom from glasses but I expect I'll bite the bullet and get the progressives.

If your eyes are equal, you can now get "varifocal" readers off the shelf. Foster Grant makes them and you can try them at Walgreens. They serve as readers, computer and across the desk (varible magnification). I actually prefer them to the $300 progressives I just got a few months ago. The peripheral vision is much better and the frames are decent quality and there about $30 retail.

Now that I said that, I'll tell you I don't use glasses using the viewfinder which I adjusted (diopter) for my vision. The top of my head or a neck cord are where the glasses are for everything else.

Very good point. I just read an article about the '68 Caddy. Sounds like a great car - gas mileage isn't bad, either. :D

See now? If you had that '68 Caddy you'd be all aglow, cruising around, listening to Three Dog Night or Sinatra, looking for some '68 chicks to pick up. However, you might want to think about getting that muffler fixed first.

Cost does bother me, particularly, because I need something longer than 300mm, which is the longest I have in a Nikon. That's why I buy used cameras. They depreciate like crazy. I buy used glass too, but if I can't buy used, I will consider new.

A lot of people just want the next new thing. I try to take advantage of that.

Yep, the depreciation is crazy, That's why I bought an 8 year old Nikon. When the time comes, I'll trade up to another 8 year old model. There's a lot of benefit's to that thinking. I bought just about every book and DVD published on that camera used for under $20. To top things off, what you need to do is to ONLY READ 8 year old magazines and you'll be on top of the world and no one will be the wiser. Trust me it's true.

Incredible.

I have also been amazed how some children begin to read with no teaching at all. My son at a very young age , seemingly out of thin air, began picking up an incredible amount of visual word associations on his own. He was fascinated with printed materials. I am also maybe, not quite so proud to admit, that TV was also a stimulus of choice, surprisingly though, it just the commercials. Just my luck, he had also become a very vocal consumer advocate at the same time. One day I pulled to a stop light next to a large box truck, which had some printing, but no logo's or pictures on it's side. My son turned to me and said, "Boy, I could use a cold beer". It shocked me, because beer wasn't even a common product in our home.

I was browsing ebay , as you do after just buying a 75 to 300mm lens Af and i already had an 18-55mm af lens when i found what was supposed to be an AF 35-80 lens. It was OEM and had a surprisingly good reputation over the years there had been a manual quite liked an F which was a real dog and an FA which was supposed to be quite good for very little money about 15 dollars.

So I bought this lens thinking that it would fill my little AF gap. Next day I was looking at reviews of the lens and pictures from the listing and it didnt add up the lens didnt appear to actually be the FA and looked to be the A version and the listing did say auto and manual focusing.

Any way i messaged the seller who had posted it the day before and told him i thought he'd listed the lens as the wrong model.

He quickly replied and offered to refund me as it was just a cheap lens. So I agreed and today it arrived.

well the lens quickly turned out to be the manual version and had massive fungus behind the front element so i decided to break it down and clean it, nothing to lose. well turns out only about 95% of a lens was there the front section had been glued together and rings were missing that should of held one section to another. So turned out to be actual junk. Been fun stripping and cleaning it but i just can't get it to focus without gluing the front element in place again. It might work but i doubt it.

Anyone else been sold a lens worse than this?
I was browsing ebay , as you do after just buying ... (show quote)

I got stuck once, a long time ago. I can't even remember what lens or why I bought it, as it was cheap. Anyway, the aperture didn't function. To make a long story short, that was before I became savvy buying on ebay. You will learn to spot if a person knows anything about what they're selling. Most people are honest but, if they have no knowledge or experience with the item, then you actually have a larger risk for problems then in any other scenario. If you can't tell, check their history. If they haven't sold any other photo gear, be careful. People will try to sell any crap they find. You can usually pick them out also. They don't last long on ebay and they sell mostly nickel and dime garage sale junk. Since I've learned to weed through the avoidable, I haven't had a bad ebay experience for years.

One very basic tip on buying lenses is if the lens doesn't have lens caps you can almost bet the seller honestly doesn't have a clue as to the lens condition and it's a crap shoot.
