I covered this game because of all the news about Basic. The coach was all of a sudden fired and the kids stuck to playing their game. 18-3 so far this year.

You can do this Tom. At my age I cannot stand for long periods of time. I take my little chair that's very light weight and shoot from right inside the dugout. Number one it lets me shoot low and number two I don't get that tired. I will stand if I think a play is coming to second base on a double play or a steal. Plays at third is twenty feet from me. Then I will switch to my 70-200 2.8 lens on the D500. If there is a will believe me there is a way.

I hate being old. I am going to buy a stool, for soccer which you told me about last year or year before. I wish football I could use a stool but you know, have to move around at least some to get the shots. I think I have said this before. My growing up years and still to this day my HERO was Mickey Mantle. he was being interviewed some time and he told the interviewer that if he would have known he was going to live this long he would have taken better care of himself. I feel that way sometimes. Thanks for all. BE SAFE!!

I am going to chime in here. Your photos are very nice, but are you getting the most out of your gear. Maybe shoot simple. Like shoot in manual. 1/4000 at wide open, no no extender which softens the photos. I always use a monopod for all sports except basketball. Gear just to heavy for me anyway. When you shoot with a very high iso image quality will suffer. A monopod will help keep your shots in focus, limiting camera shake. Fill the frame with your shots, contentrate on quality each shot. It's very easy these days to depend on Topaz and other products out there to make an average shot better. That's ok as long as the shot itself has merit.
Just my thoughts sir. Throw them out or try a few suggestions. Your stuff is good make it better. You have great gear.
Jules
I am going to chime in here. Your photos are very... (show quote)

A lot of nice work here Tom. Six months is a long time to not be shooting. I am sure the timing was off a tad. None the less good stuff. Feel good.
Jules

Yes I was off a little. My balance isn't real good right now. Standing on the steps going into the dugout was real hard not very stable and made me wobble. I need to get back shooting at lest 2-3 times a week. I just have so far to go to get back to where I was. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Do NOT, in my opinion, give up sports photography. These photos are some of the best sports photos I have seen here on this forum. Just plain excellent in color, composition and sharpness.

I wish you well on your journey medically speaking.

Dennis

Dennis thanks you very much for the kind words about my photos. I hadn't shot anything for 5-6 months, has been hard to get around for awhile (my Neuropathy has been real bad for awhile). So I was surprised I did so good. BE SFE!!

Really nice shots. I love the fourth one!

Yes the was a good one. Even as fast and dusty it turned out nice. The first one was safe and the second was out. Wasn't expecting that, was looking at the first runner and all of a sudden the second was right on his back. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Tom - these are terrific shots. You have not lost your touch. Keep it up. As long as you enjoy getting outside and shooting on a nice day, why quit ??? At our age we need to keep moving. Be well. Paul

Thank you so much Paul. You are so right we do need to keep moving or we will lose it. I went through a period of just sitting watching tv a lot. My Neuropathy was killing my feet and knees. My left arm was getting smaller from atrophy. I am doing curls and it has really helped. Being outside a lot would probably help me a lot. Thanks again BE SAFE!!

Well done, Tom. Good to see you out and about again. Perhaps just try a different approach to sports shooting. Use chairs and stools and just get what you can, but enjoying being out.

You are right. I have thought about that day before yesterday. I have a 200-500mm f/5.6 that use for all my outside shooting. So I can be almost anywhere and get full framed shots. I know Jules does have a stool he uses for soccer and I think if I keep shooting sports I am going to purchase one. Yes just getting out in the fresh air even when it's hot is awesome. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Welcome back! Good shots, my favorite is the play at first. You've got the defender, runner and ball in flight.

I am glad to be back. Appreciate the kind words. Hoping to shoot more real soon. Thanks BE SAFE!!
