Hello, I am a new photographer and wonder if binoculars come in handy to spy birds before attempts are made to capture them on camera. I certainly have difficulty localizing them! If so, can you recommend binoculars to purchase? I am not so concerned about price; I want a really excellent pair that is suited only to photography. Thank you!

An important feature for hand-held binoculars is some sort of stability control. I have had good experience with the Canon I.S. line, especially when using a magnification factor over 8.

I used to work on consulting engineering jobs on ships. I used a tripod sometimes when documenting the sensors or instrumentation installation but found that subjects while underway came too quickly to fame a scene on a mount. Hand-held "snap-shots" produced much more rewarding results; the interesting shots were almost always fleeting - the underside of the Golden Gate bridge when entering S.F., the mules while transiting the Panama Canal, or even when one knows what is coming up on repeated routes such as on the Great Lakes. Just keep your camera handy and set up for general shots.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the dilemma of deciding how to program self-driving cars. Save the occupants, or save the pedestrians. Mercedes has decided.

The Germans had an economical, non-polluting, reliable energy source, nuclear, but they are shutting it down because of unfounded fears for a pie-in-the sky scheme, creating by non-technical bureaucrats who don't understand physics.

Medical studies have shown that some excess weight is favorable for older people. And the Michelangelo's "David" is several hundred years old.

And where is the electricity going to come from to change the batteries or whatever they may dream up? Germany has already eschewed nuclear power, unlike neighbor France that generates most of it electricity from nuclear and exports to Germany. Most of the German power comes from dirty coal. The Greens have a Blue Sky mentality but are divorced from Reality.

Interesting that he didn't use his flaps until he was at lift off speed - haven't seen that done before -

Flaps induce a significant amount of additional drag when deployed. So, in cases with acceleration to speed is critical (limited runway length or limited horsepower) flaps are only "popped" when the extra lift is needed.

The paddle attached to the right hand float is amusing; you won't catch those Canadians up the creek without a paddle.

Many camera (and other devices) can't (yet?) handle memories this large because their operating system can't address the locations; the address numbers are not allowed to be that big.

Are the former Canon EOS-M lenses (for M, M2, M3) fully functional on the newly announced M 5?

Did I miss the Canon M4, or was it not offered in the U.S., or is there a model still to be announced? Are the original Canon EOS-M lenses 100% compatible with the M5?

My company sent me to help our English operation for a few weeks. Some things which hit me were:
1. Driving on the left side of the road was not natural for me, and going clockwise around rotaries (roundabouts) was also unnatural, espeiclally at night when no one was sharing the road.
2. Getting into the driver's seat on the right wasn't master by me; I'd instinctively head for the left side.
3. When crossing the road, remember, danger on the right.
4. After three weeks, I thought I needed a haircut but couldn't remember seeing a barber shop in my travels.
5. The few people I asked for directions were kind but seemed to be taken aback that someone they didnt know would address them.
6. During lunch and the afternoon break, being Mother (getting the tea) was appreciated by the colleagues.

Worlds First Digital Camera (1975).. Created by Kodak's engineer Steve Sasson.

A colleague at Perkin-Elmer made a digital camera, for the military, before then. It has a one pixel photo sensor and scanned the image to produce the photo field.
