Hi Folks, been kind of busy lately, but had a craving to do some photoshop, so did a little this morning. Now this isn't composed well at all for you beginners. I was so concentrated on getting a good view of the flower...I missed getting the supporting vase in the photo. The vase is directly below the flower...so instead I have what looks like a floating flower. Oh, well...at least I got some practice in...and learned a valuable lesson. BTW....I wish everyone a early Happy Valentines Day!

I was fortunate to capture these Yellow Jacketed Woodpeckers the other day nest building. They used to be a very rare sight in these parts but now it seems that they are on the upswing. I did a little reading and found that they like older, large, unkempt trees which they prefer for their nest building.

Now then, I have read several posts on UHH where the novice photographer tries to shoot birds while sitting in a tree and they can not seem to get the bird in focus for all of the branches.

This problem is either they were trying to photograph the bird with their lens in Auto Focus or, they are using a bridge camera that even in manual mode, does not allow for the manual focusing of the lens (such is the case here. I was using an old Fuji bridge camera). Since I was also shooting from indoors, my camera was actually focusing on the window glass. This is why everything is just a tad out of focus. Otherwise, the foreground branches would have been in focus.

I always love a good story.

Here is Jake hanging from a hummingbird feeder about 3 feet in the air but you can not tell because of the bad angle of the shot. This was shot with an aperture of F7.1. It may have been better if shot at F4 so as to blur the background some.

But the angle that this was shot does not give any clue as to how high he was suspend nor that he was actually pretty isolated from the background.

But he is happy so...

Sometimes I just get tired of following the rules too.
Great shot, Tom!

Will be life long friends.... If they don't kill each other first.

Reminds me of me and my brothers. We used to argue and rough house all the time. One time my older brother pointed an air BB gun at the top of my head and pulled the trigger. I felt the blast of air and thought he shot a bullet at me (I didn't know about air BB guns at the time). He scared me. But I got him back years later. I bought one of those compressed air canisters for cleaning computers and it was a small size (about the size of a D size battery). And I yelled "Mase!" and sprayed him in the face with it. He like to have freaked out! LOL!

The sparrow's head was in the shade and no, I did not use a flash. Actually the catch light is from the light reflecting from the glass wall on the feeder.

I should have used a Sony.

Great shot with the tongue sticking out LOL!

This is Josh. He is a little over 2 years old. He is not a very good listener nor does he seem to learn from his mistake.

He is sleeping with Lulu. But look at his face. All of those marks are from Sophie, not Lulu. These are from different days.

He just does not seem to get it. You don't squeeze a cat hard or hold it by its' tail. Cats don't like this.

We live and we learn. We die and forget. :-D

Shhh....Great shot, Tom!

Just a small area of this is in focus, but I like the colors and the sunburst. I put a Picasa frame on it, so easy! Thank you Linda from Maine!

Love the frame too!

I wish I could tell you what I did here, but it's been a week since I worked on it, and I've forgotten

I love the High Key effect here. Beautiful!

Older image, but re-worked with newly acquired pp "skill."

Mostly done in PSE 12.

Your critique is welcomed. Thanks for viewing!

Well, Snow White, apparently you're the fairest of them all! :-D

This image reminds me of the Disney tale "Snow White". Thanks for sharing it with us, Linda!

Jack and I braved the weather and went down and walked a few trails this morning. His user name is J-SPEIGHT on the site. This will be my second meeting with a site member. What a nice guy!! We had a good time talking and walking. Even tho it was around 15 degrees out. Not a lot of folks, animals or sun on the trails. I don't know why!:):) But it was a fun afternoon with a new friend.Just a few shots I took. Pretty grey and cold.

I visited Yellowstone on Memorial Day this past September. Here are some shots of the thermal features, the part I enjoyed most. So much hot water!

Great set, Jerry! I was there in 2002 and enjoyed it a lot.

I have been criticized before for using the "oil paint" filter to much, but in this particular case, I feel like it is more than justified and is perfect for this image. I cropped it so the water in the foreground leads your eye up the image to the people where all the action is. I really like this image a lot and hope that you can appreciate it as much as I do.

Splendid composition, Brent!   8-)
