I love the detail and the clarity.
Thanks. The black part of the bottom of the flower looks like plastic to me.
Just another flower, but, I really enjoy looking at it. Made it my screen saver.
Thanks to all who responded. This site is a treasure of information.

That is just not true, it only fires a preflash when using ttl/tti !
You are correct! Took flash out of TTL and put it in manual, the pre flash or first flash has stopped. Thank you so much speters.

Unless it is a super flash, rear curtain will only go off as the rear curtain starts to close. Normally, the flash goes off once the first curtain exposes the film or sensor. But unless it is a super flash (steadily flashes during the whole slow exposure), the flash will only fire once. If it is flashing twice, it is more than likely you have your red-eye reduction on. That is a pre-flash to get the subjects eyes to dilate small and contributes nothing to the exposure.
No. the red eye flash is turned off. But, thanks for the response wdross.
While using rear curtain flash with slow exposure, the flash is firing at the beginning of the exposure and then again at the end of the exposure. I've searched the internet and this site with no success. I have Darrell Young's "Mastering the Nikon D7100. I am either missing something or the camera needs to be repaired. Thought I would ask you guys first. I have thought about doing a factory reset but will wait till after I post this.
Tokina 12-28mm most of the time and Nikon 50mm f1.8

Just purchased a used Nikon D7100 from a relative. He charged me $200, and from reviews I read I feel that is a steal. The shutter count is at 25,270. I was honest with him and told him he should be asking a lot more than that but he insisted being family that was all he wanted. He justified it by saying he was getting nothing while it sat in his closet. The reviews on the camera were very good but I trust the opinion here so I was hoping to get some opinion from you fine folks. He also threw in Nikkor 50mm f/2.8 AF-S which I already have, and the camera has all the original packaging. This is a step up from my current D5100. Looking forward to getting out this week and taking it for a test run.

Oh wow! Enjoy. I went from D5100 to the Nikon D7100. I love the camera. I will be learning all the capabilities of the d7100 for quite a while. It's the only camera I need at this stage of my learning curve of photography. I gave $900 for refurbished D7100 and was happy. You have a great relative there. Make sure he gets more pie at Thanksgiving!!
I have the Tokina 12-28mm lens. Have been very happy with photos and the lens feels well built. I have a DX camera.
I envy you! You have so much fun ahead of you. As you learn what this and that does, your photos will get better and better. Have fun and welcome to the UHH!
Took typing in high school. Glad I did. Got me out of a few chores in basic training at Ft Knox KY. The company clerk came by and asked if anyone can type. I ignored the golden rule and volunteered. Anyone remember typing on mimeograph paper? That's what they used back in 1969. Plus, when I returned from Vietnam to Ft Hood, TX., they were going to make me a cook. I was trained as Military Police. I asked Lt. that was processing me into the base if there was anything else open. It was then I mentioned I typed. He made me his clerk!! So, long story longer, typing has been berry berry goood to me. Oh, best I ever did was about 70 wpm.
Jerry, as much as you spend on the computer and all the posts you make (thanks for all those posts), you might take advantage of the free typing courses available on the web!
Welcome Craig. Got to Maui once for about 3 days. Loved it. Envy you. Post some of your sunsets/sunrise photos
please.
Who cares what others think, as long as mom likes your photos! She is more important than some UHH! Have fun and lets see some photos!
