It IS photography if you take a picture of it, so this should be the right place.

A UHH member asked to see more of my artwork here, so I thought I might start a thread for all of us to share. Anyone who draws, paints, sculpts, does woodworking, anything you make that you'd like to show here, PLEASE do.

I'll start it with a picture I painted a while back. I put it on my auction site on FB and it sold within 10 seconds of posting it. OOPS, I didn't mean to put it on with the sold stamp on it. I don't guess it matters.

I have mentioned that I used to carve way back when. These are my 2 best photos of carving that did will.
Unfortunately the photo either did not retain the color around the doves eye (a pale blue) or the camera did not capture it. It was a about 40 years ago and I knew even less about photography then I do now.

The Woodcock photo looks truer to form. I still own the woodcock carving. The Dove was sold to some surgeon in North Philly at the first show I took it to. It was later shown one time to compete in the Ward Foundation World Championship.

These were among my top sellers way back when and I remade several of each in similar pose and setting.

Both are full size. Carved from Jelutong. The eyes are museum quality glass eyes hand made by Tohickon Eyes in Eastern Pa. Everything you see in the photo, other then the eyes was made by me by hand. The leaves are made from old grocery bag paper.
The feathers are burned in with a tool called a Feather Etcher. Sorta like an electrified scalpel, Very hot very sharp. Both birds are painted with artist oils, mostly. Every now and then other paints were introduced into a work, with the oils for, one reason or another.

Best tooth brush salesman in the world was a guy named Joseph Summa, he was a Colonel in the US Medical Corp, a DDS. He began to grasp the problem of oral hygiene after Private Presley (Elvis), who was one of the new recruits who had need of extensive dental treatment. It was Summa's efforts that push through the need for a fresh tooth brush and tooth past issues to every combat troop daily, during the Viet Nam conflict. He also introduced the ideal brushing technique of up and down rather than the old back and forth method that was featured in the scene of the master sergeant instructing men in the "Proper military method of brushing teeth" in a scene from Kubrick's film about that time.

I knew that guy Joe Summa, he was my father, and yea he taught all of his six kids to brush properly.
