I just bring my computer in and have them refocus the screen. No glasses for me.

Very nice. Sorry you had to work so hard for the shot. Thank you for being so brave as to go out with only your coffee as backup.

"Tradition" would say stick with Nikon. "If I were a Rich Man" I would do just that because Nikon lenses and Nikon cameras are a "Matchmakers" dream. So if you are looking for a "Miracle of Miracles" perfect lens/price combination you wont't find it easily, though the Sigma and Tamron come close. All the lenses you mention will shoot both "Sunrise-Sunset" and everything in between. I doubt as a photographer you will ever be able to say "Now I Have Everything" I need. Could not resist all the "Fiddler on the Roof" references (I saw it on Broadway).

Both are equally important. But lenses last much longer than camera bodies before they are surpassed. So I got a less expensive body then collected some of my L glass. Then bought my 7D2 and I am now filling out my collection of L lenses.

I don't know what you are shooting but there are several things that can speed up the frame rate. If the camera doesn't have to think it can get to the 10fps. This means shoot in Manual. If you can shoot without IS it helps the frame rate. When I am shooting birds I shoot at 1/2000 sec and I can shoot without the IS being on. That actually lets the camera focus faster as well.(My opinion, not backed up with data). I too shoot in Raw and jpeg. Shooting only in raw allows a slightly faster frame rate (based on the speed of the shutter noise). By the way you will be please with the reduced noise of the shutter. I agree with the others that Canon L glass seems to help with the frame rate.

In my opinion, manual focus is not very effective in action sports especially at the wide open apertures I also recommend. Short sequences at burst speeds will more often result in the better shots. These shots are the bread-and-butter of the F2.8 (and faster) lenses. Best of luck.

Since I will be shooting with a 100mm f2.8 for the pitcher and home plate shots I look forward to trying these suggestions. I guess a 70-200 would be the best compromise lens but I don't have one of those.

I am not a fan of baseball but when a friend asked me to take pictures at her sons game I wouldn't say no. He is a 15 year old sophomore pitcher that is already being scouted.

Very pretty image. I grew up on Staten Island (St Peters High '67) but I am glad that I have lived in the south since then and am wearing t-shirt and shorts because it will be 70 degrees today.

But are all we, they? Judging from the number of people who have had their cataracts removed, this forum should be renamed "Photocodgers"

There are so many old codgers on UHH yhat if you started a page that was for "Grandkids" it would be the busiest page. There would also be numerous fights about the cutest, smartest, most loving etc.

Nice collection. If you want to practice birds in flight try birds flying into a feeder. You will get practice that will make getting good shots of large birds seem easy.

Fishing birds often pair up with bottom feeders in hopes that the bottom feeders will stir up some fish.
