One thing I DO know is that after all these years Hershey's still cant make good chocolate, lol. - And now that they've bought up Cadbury's a few years ago the quality of Cadburys chocolate has also dropped.
. . . thank god for Galaxy chocolate; quality still seems important to them.

Sounds like a great idea OR2a. - If you do please consider donating the D7000 my way; - could do with another (DX) DSLR body.
Cheers,
Danny.

I gotta say: I and a couple of friends had problems with the Lexar brand "back in the day". I've NEVER touched them since: (around 2005). Sandisk [Extreme/Extreme Pro} are my top choice, followed closely by Transcend [Ultimate] cards.
Regards, Danny.

I have to admit I tend to keep the boxes; (original packaging) that my "techie toys" come in, - plus of course any manuals & software discs. I rend to bag & seal them & toss them on the top shelf in the shed or in the attic. Then , should I decide to sell it on it actually looks good if I not only have a clean, working item, but also the clean original packaging and all the bits & bobs; - adds value because of presentation.

This is really darned cool! - Only the out-stretched leg gives it away.

Perhaps you are right - if so, I apologize for misinterpreting.

yes, f8lee, oldtigger is correct: I'm NOT talking about being in Live View - (which I only very occasionally use). I just hoped I could find a setting whereby my info would always be displayed on the rear LCD - instead of having to keep pressing the "i" button to get it back. I have further looked through the [printed] Manual - and it seems I cannot achieve that with the D7100 - as I could on the D5100.
. . . . Will have to just keep hitting the "i" button I guess.
Thanks to you all for queries, suggestions & input.

Hi to all of you who have replied so far.
Firstly, "No", I'm not talking of when I'm in Live View mode.
Thanks to Just Fred for your reply as well. Have to say this is where I've looked earlier. I think my D5100 had an "always on" option, - which basically does it suggests, ie: rear LCD always on until I press/ half depress the shutter release button. And immediately on releasing the button the display comes back on. I know I will shorten battery life, but from a convenience point it would be great if I could have it always on as I can read the info WITHOUT spectacles. . . . so just hoping that this option IS buried somewhere in the Menu on the D7100. . . . would prefer NOT to having to keep pressing the "i" button between shots.

Hi UHH friends,
I'm looking for advice regarding the rear LCD screen on my D7100. I can not find anywhere in the settings where I can set it to remain on. (My close-up sight isn't good; - usually wear spectacles for reading, computing, etc). So IF I could get my rear LCD to remain on I wouldn't have to keep flipping my glasses on & off. On my D5100 I was able to do this; - the screen would only blank out when I depressed or half depressed the shutter release button, then as soon as I took my finger off the shutter the display would automatically return. This was great as the bigger characters meant I could see my ISO, aperture, etc without resorting to my spectacles.
Sincere thanks in advance for any advice.
Danny.

Oh, bugger!!!
NOT good. Hopefully you will be able to download an electronic copy of your manual.
I bought my D7100 less than 2 months ago; (refurbished item from B & H Photo Video) - so yes, still referring to the manual at times. However I cannot seem to find a setting that allows me to keep the rear info screen always on. I was able to do this on my D5100; (basically it always displays my settings, only blanking out when I depress or half depress the shutter) and found it useful as I wear spectacles for reading, but hate having to wear them when using my DSLR. I find that I can easily read the bigger characters of the rear panel display without spectacles. So, does anyone on UHH know if I can achieve the same on my D7100? - Thanks in anticipation.

absolutely stunning photo, - love everything about it; composition, detail and the contrast.
Did you shoot it in mono or convert to monochrome in Photoshop? . . . Also: may I ask: What camera were you shooting with?

Hi Desert Gecko, I'd suggest perhaps look at one or two Sigma Lenses. The Sigma 10 - 20mm f3.5 is a wee bit pricey; (around $649.00) but has come out on top in all the lens reviews I've seen on wide-angle lenses over the last 18 months. (I have the cheaper Sigma 10-20mm version, which I use on my Nikon D5100 & D7100, - which is STILL a great lens). The Sigma 8-16mm is also darned good if you want to go even wider. Happy shooting.

Hi, I can see where you're coming from with that theory - and I think you're correct to some extent. However I know the Glass; (Lens quality) DOES make a big difference. I see some pro's STILL shooting with stuff like the D300/D300s and D3 and semi pros/serious enthusiasts still shooting with stuff like the D300, D700, D90, etc - but they are using really good lenses. I would say that a new/er ertry level DSLR like the D3200, D3300 or D5200, whilst not having some of the extra features & weather proofing, still have better sensors, and more modern (& faster) DIGIC processors, plus more resolution - so would definitely benefit from the use of premium glass.

Hi, I've bought refurbished from B & H Photo Video on 3 occasions now, luckily all items working perfectly - and looked like new. (A Nikon D3200 with 18 - 55mm lens, a Nikkor 55 - 300mm lens and 2 months ago a Nikon D7100 with Nikkor 18 - 140mm lens. Sorry to hear you had problems with your refurbished purchase.

Hi DonORN, in theory your approach sounds good. The Nikon D3300 is a nice entry-level DSLR - with a 24 megapixel sensor. If you do NOT want to go a little higher up the price range - (eg the Nikon D5200; - benefits include vari-angle screen and more focus points). It IS trus that good glass makes a difference - and like another UHH member suggests, better to go for the f2.8 version of the Lens as well - because it's "faster". Also you've got to remember that a DX (cropped frame) DSLR gives greater Depth of Field for any given f stop than a full frame (FX) sensor model, so, for a shallower DOF on a DX camera you'd have to use a bigger aperture; (smaller f number) compared to what you'd use on an FX model.

Hi again bcheary,
actually I hope we get enough "tourists" to make it all work.
I say that because St. Helena is not your more usual tourist destination; we don't have big white sandy beaches or nightclubs/casinos or shopping malls.
St. Helena is a ruggedly beautiful island - & very hilly.
The sort of tourists I expect will enjoy St. Helena (will, I hope) range from the younger set through to retired & semi-retired people. There is history here; Last place of exile for the Napoleon Bonaparte after his defeat at Waterloo, Prince Denizulu & his entourage were imprisoned here, the slave trade & abolition of, with slave grave sites, Boer War prisoner graves, & lots, lots more, - not forgetting Jonathon the tortoise at Plantation House; probably the oldest living tortoise of that species. What else: the endemic flora & fauna. The diving and annual visits from humpbacked whales & whale sharks, - so diving & snorkelling & boat trips. All the scenic "post box" walks. Also the island's relative safe environment & warm friendly people. We are just different - and quite unique I guess. . . . so I hope enough people will come to msake it worth our while - without overwhelming us.
