Something else to think about - BBAF actually works the way cameras did in the past. Back in the manual focus days, the shutter release just released the shutter and we used a separate control for focus the photo. Now, instead of the focus ring on the lens, it's a button on the back of the camera.

so true.

check your floor for the snap ring. hoya filters usually have the glass held in by these. sometimes it is a small threaded ring.

no need to sell it. set it up on your camera and try it. if it works for you fine. if not, fine. it is only you who can decide.

back button focus: focus, recompose, shoot. no need to keep button pressed after focus unless set to servo.
manual focus: focus, recompose, shoot.
if your lens has full time manual focus you can do both.

picasa only accesses the image files on your computer, it does not store a copy within picasa. when you edit a photo, the edited photo will not be kept if you delete the original. the only way to keep the edited version is if you export the image, thereby storing it on your computer.

The lens is a Rapid Rectilinear, a fairly simple four element doublet popular in the late 1800s before anastigmats came into general use. Do not be fooled by the aperture numbers - those shown are U.S. numbers not F numbers. US4 is equivalent to F/8. US 8 is equivalent to F/11 and so on. Most likely, the alcohol has evaporated out of the bubble level. What you thought was a bubble is an aiming mark which is part of the enclosure. The bubble itself is long gone. The single shutter speed is about 1/25 second, IF it still works properly. I have several old shutters of similar type in my collection and they do not operate well.
