I saw PS Elements on sale yesterday, 24 hours only ☹️ for $59-... I missed it, of course. It was for stand alone version. I have and use LR, but it doesn't do layers! I don't want/need full PS, so does anyone have any experience with Elements? I think I probably missed a DEAL!

Elements also includes an Organizer that provides an excellent digital imaging management capability. Like Lightroom Classic, it is built on database technology.

This post is more about my Hedgehogers thoughts. I have a DJI Phantom 4 pro that I haven't flown in a while and after downloading the latest firmware, everywhere is some type of restricted area. And, the FAA is trying to implement additional restrictions. I can honestly say that if I didn't already own a drone, I certainly wouldn't purchase one now. Thoughts please.........

I can appreciate your concern. I have a DJI Mavic Pro. I live in the South Bay of LA and it is getting harder to find a suitable, and legal place to fly. But, for me it is still worth it. Others have provided som good advice re. certification etc. FWIW

I only have between 8 and 9 thousand images but consider keywords in PSE essential to find anything. A lot have more than one. It IS my filing system.

Used PSE's Organizer since PSE 3 and it worked well for me. I had about 50K images. More recently, I converted my Catalog to Lightroom CC using its built-in command, which worked fine. FWIW

To me the big advantage of using Keywords in programs like Photoshop Elements and Lightroom is that each photo or video can have multiple keywords. And they are independent of their file name or physical location. This allows for a lot more flexibility when looking for a particular image. Lightroom Collections can also be used to accomplish this. FWIW

I have periodic problem with Photo Shop ignoring commands for paper size. My wife and I both very carefully instructed it to print 11x14, after sizing the image to those dimensionsin PS/Image/Image Size. All looked good until we started printing and it printed 8.5x11. Not once, but three times, after we went step by step through the process. Drives one crazy! It has happened before, but not always. Tonight it seems to be stuck on that size. Any ideas on how to avoid this? I am close to employing sledge hammer maintenance!

You do not mention anything about which printer you are using and what size etc it is set to. Your problem may be caused by the printer settings, including size you have set. FWIW.

My assumption was if I create a Library in Elements I could eventually attempt Lightroom. Since both are Adobe my thought is they are compatible. However, I could be wrong.

Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC, both have a command to import a PSE Catalog. You can merge it with your existing Lightroom catalog if you have one. I have done it, and am happy with the results.

I considered that, because I too use no-longer supported software, for example, Movie Maker 2012. In the end, I decided that I have enough slide show presentation software.

Sodapop,

I do slideshows in Premiere Elements and like it for that. Most UHH members believe in Proshow Gold. Lightroom Classic also has a tool for slideshows.

Here is an example of a slide show I did of a trip to a Scotch Whisky factory using Premiere Elements: https://vimeo.com/238238918

I was finally going to buy ProShow Gold. I went to the site to download it, and saw a small message that they were shutting the doors on January 31, 2020. I did not buy it.

They suggested another slide show program (I cannot remember the name) and I clicked on the link. It was going to be subscription-based, and the developers were from ProShow and this program is compatible with ProShow-produced presentations.

It appears that they basically are converting PRoShow into subscription-based software.

For the time being, I will stay with PRE 2020, Lightroom Classic, PSE 2020, and occasionally MS Movie Maker 2012 for producing slide shows.

I have Elements 7 and 15 on my computer. The 7 has a much better slideshow function than the 15.
There may be other differences between versions. If you got space, think about keeping both.

You are right about that! The original Slide Show Editor from early version of Elements was much better than what they replaced it with in more recent versions.

I don't know what operating system you are using, but I found out the hard way that some features of Elements 2020 are not supported in Windows 7. I only found out about this after making an upgrade special purchase price from my PSE 10 which has served me well. I was very disappointed with the aforementioned fact and I did not like the new interface at all. I promptly requested, and received, a full refund of my purchase price of PSE 2020! If you are going to continue using Windows 7, I would suggest that you retain your copy of PSE 11 as well as your gifted 2020 version.

Streetrodder, could you elaborate on what features of PSE 2020 are not supported by Windows 7? Also, you may not need to fall back all of the way to PSE 11. It was the first version with the new look and feel, and there have been many versions (released annually in September) since PSE 11.

Also, I am curious, what parts of the PSE 2020 interface did you not like?

It sounds like you are using the Organizer in Elements. Have you considered or have you imported your Catalog to Lightroom Classic into a Lightroom Catalog? It won't affect your current PSE Catalog. Then you can use Classic/Photoshop for future photos using the other suggestions in this thread. The only thing you need to watch is as you edit/change existing photos using LR or Photoshop, the PSE Catalog more obsolete - incase you ever want to go back to it.

I bought the 7D Mk II as soon as they came out, upgrading from the 7D. I take lots of sports action shots. Along with its 10 frames/sec, it also has very fast focusing capabilities. I also, like the fact that being an APS-C camera, it has the 1.6 magnification factor. I still have the 7D, which stays in the trunk of my car.

I am watching what Canon will do for the Mk II replacement. Depending what form it takes, I will either upgrade again, or possibly switch gears to a mirrorless model. FWIW

The best camera is the one you have with you. For most people, that is whatever comes with their smartphone.

You have received an array of good comments. One that I like is the suggestion to download the latest version of PSE 2019 and try it. You will find that its user interface (especially in the Organizer) is entirely different. The interface was entirely changed beginning with PSE 11. The Editor's interface also changed but not as drastically.

And has been pointed out by others, PSE has improved the tools you already know, as well as adding new tools to help you restore your photos. Make use of the Guided Edits to help you explore many of the improvements.

One final point, Adobe has updated PSE in the September, October timeframe for the past several years. These are generally incremental changes. If you choose to download the trial version, and decide that is the way to go, I would hold off a bit, buying it to see if Adobe repeats their history. FWIW

The program offers training from within. Near the top of the opened software screen, you'll see eLive, Quick, Guided, Expert heading. eLive has tutorials for your learning experience. Both Quick & Guided are good for actually editing pictures. Give them a try; they are actually quite helpful. Take care & ...

I agree, they and the YouTube videos are a great way to start. Note, even most of the videos that are for older versions are still valid for PSE 2019. Finally, if you have not explored it yet, I highly recommend that you look into using the Organizer that comes with PSE 2019. It can do many/most of the functions that the Lightroom Classic Library mode can, but is significantly more friendly.
