My parents Brownie Box Camera was the first camera I ever took a picture with in the 1950's.
Congratulations, and many more memories!

(Isn't the human mind an amazing thing? It recalls where paper and hard drives have failed to retain.)

Thanks for your comment, and YES, the human mind is an amazing thing. It will never be equaled by any manmade device.

What a world of coincidences! I was born in 1935, the year you got your baby Brownie. Several years later, not sure, but I think it was around 1946 I was given a Baby Brownie (which I still have) for my first camera. My next camera was a high school graduation gift,an Argus C3. Congratulations! I have no idea what my BB cost, but it has a molded-in optical viewfinder instead of the pop-up finder you show for yours. It has the same white plastic knurled knob for film advance and a braided black plastic strap to carry it. I share your lifelong interest in photography    :thumbup

Thanks for any interesting and informative comment. It is nice to have a lifelong interest in something positive and productive.

You have had a rewarding life in photography - I don't know if it was your work or just a hobby but I can tell you have enjoyed it.

Thank you for your comments. Mostly, I have enjoyed the photographic journey, with a few bleak spots. I spent about two years as a part time news photographer for a major city newspaper when I was still in my teens, later I spent four years as a fulltime professional photographer - not one of the best periods of my life. Since then, it has been mostly an avocation, occasionally teaching a few students, selling some work through local tourist gift shops. No more fulltime pro work for me anymore.

Congrats Photoman! I know well how you feel-----we have much in common. Check out my first post. I'd be interested to know some of the cameras you have used along the way---particularly early ones.

Thanks for your comments. My first camera was the Baby Brownie. The second camera was a Kodak Duo-620 - made in Germany, f/3.5 lens, Compur shutter, 1 sec to I/500, a gift on my eighth birthday. It cost $57.50, a high price in those days of the Great Depression when a store clerk made $10 a week and a truck driver made $18 to $20. I still have that camera, still in perfect working order My third camera was an Argus A, a little plastic 35mm camera with an f/4.5 lens. It was another birthday gift, cost $12.50 and it came with a Kalart flashgun, price $12.95. The flashgun had a large external synchronizer which made the rig a little ungainly in flash mode, but I made some money with the rig, mostly shooting children's birthday parties. I charged five dollars per party. My fourth camera, which I still have, purchased in 1940, is a 4x5 Speed Graphic with a large Mendelsohn flash gun, a 150mm Zeiss Tessar lens in a Compur shutter. Many cameras came later, too many to list here.

Congratulations for this amazing anniversary! You are lucky to be celebrating such a long involvement with photography. In addition to yours, this year marks two more anniversaries: ninety years ago, Leica introduced its first 35mm camera and sixty years ago Nikon presented the first challenge to Leica with the S2 that featured the first advance lever and many other innovations.
Please enjoy and show us some of your rarest shots!

Thanks for your comments. I do remember the early Leicas. I believe it was the Leica A. It was a very rudimentary camera - no rangefinder - simple little optical viewfinder on top. I recall there was a clip next to the viewfinder which could support an independent, uncoupled rangefinder which stood vertically like a little stovepipe. Later, a few years after World War Two, the Nikon caused a sensation when it was first introduced. Most people did not believe that the Japanese could produce such a high quality instrument.
