Edge is in no way related to the late, unlamented Internet Exploder... er, Explorer. At their core, virtually all web browsers use one of three "rendering engines,"
• WebKit, developed by Apple from a Linux source and used in the Safari browser and all iOS devices
• Gecko, developed by Mozilla, and used in Firefox and Thunderbird
• Blink, developed by Google, and used in Chrome and its derivatives. Google started with WebKit but built Blink off of it.
• Trident, developed by Microsoft and used in IE. It is now defunct. Edge uses the Blink engine, which puts it on par with Chrome.
All of these browsers are "invasive" in that they track your activity and generate targeted ads based on your browsing history. On a new computer I always download and install the free (and private) Brave Browser and make it the default.

I "discovered" Brave about 2 years ago, and would not use anything else.....
