You seem to have established a rapport with the squirrels - they all seem to be looking straight at you and posing.

Yeah, I think after a year, they are pretty used to me being around. I have a file called: Looking into the Camera. I think many of them are just little hams and like to pose. They also know I am good for peanuts!

Terrific series! Have wondered what these poses were called. We have one that frequents our backyard and will occasionally drop down like this!

Stay strong and time will heal!!

Thanks, glad you liked them. Yeah, I am also curious so did some research to see why they did this.

Thanks, that's what I am counting on!

Though I did not think it was relevant to the question I posted, I will clarify some things given some of the comments. First, it was NOT my fault. I was walking into the entrance of my apartment complex with my camera hanging around my neck. I was, at this point, simply walking. I was far off the road and nearly walking on the grass when I heard a truck coming in. The next thing I knew I was being hit and thrown further into the grassy area. The driver indicated because his truck is so high(industrial-size utility type), he couldn't see me! He also indicated he had to pee, which I should add he didn't mention to the to the cop.

I have a call into a personal injury lawyer who comes highly recommended by my CPA, and I have already been to the ER. I have a very swollen ankle, and I am limping badly, which is also giving me some balance issues going down the steps, off curbs, etc., and I have some other associated pain. I am semi-retired, so I can set my own schedule.

I also just called Photo Tech Repair, a place recommended by B&H. They can evaluate the camera for $80.00!

So, now you have the rest of the story!

Thank you to those of you who answered the question in my post.

Curious guys, educate me here. Why do I need to hire an attorney when the company immediately told me that they would cover any medical expenses as well as my equipment? My CPA has given me the name of an attorney, and I have left her a message, but I guess I am still wondering why it's needed.

Would appreciate any insight here! I seriously just want to heal and get back to life!

It was early in the spring when I first began with my squirrels nearly a year ago. I noticed one squirrel, in particular, seemed to like to pose for me, and they always dropped down into the same position. As I photographed him, it was funny, but he actually appeared to be modeling as he would hold the pose for a while and then began to vary it, such as dropping his paw down or angling his body in a different position. It was as if he knew he was working with a novice and was trying to train me! Note there were never any peanuts offered. Often, I would see him and began to call him Dropster, and strangely, he would immediately drop down. I later discovered this was called splooting. This is a position that a squirrel goes into often to cool down, but in working with them I have discovered this is often a position that they assume when they are relaxed or chilling out. Over my time with my guys as you will see this appears to be a common position.

On a side note, I later discovered that Dropster was not a male, but indeed a female! One day, I found her in this position by a tree. A few minutes later, another squirrel joined her, and I found myself documenting my first mating!

You may notice that the quality of some of these may vary as they were taken with a different camera.

Sorry, this is more squirrel stuff, but until I get on my feet again, this is me! I seriously considered fading away for a time but decided this was just the depression talking from the accident. So, I am trying to regroup and I hope I don't bore you with work from my "archives!"

A while back, I posted a link regarding a wildlife photographer I enjoy, Dani Connor Wild. She had the unique opportunity to rescue and raise a baby red squirrel. She did a series on that journey, including his release. She just did an update as she returned to Sweden to see if she could find him. It's a beautiful, touching story, and for squirrel lovers, I thought I would share it.

Here's the link about Roo. https://youtu.be/8Kdm_AvC-sI?si=tK9CN2SV9q1gEir0

Enjoy!

Last Tuesday, while walking over to do some photography, I was hit by a truck. My camera flew off my neck onto the grass. My Sigma 150-600 mm was damaged, as it will not go past 200 mm. From what I can tell, the camera is OK. However, I have been told that I should also replace it, as I can't be sure what it did to the actual life of the camera.

While I am trying to hire an attorney, which I honestly do not want to do, I need a better idea of what must be replaced. The company representative stated on the day of the accident that they would cover everything, but I am still being advised to hire an attorney. I only want my medical expenses and lens paid! I have already replaced my lens at my expense, as they have already stolen a week of my life, and I will not get in the middle of red tape! Hopefully, they will reimburse me. I purchased it from Amazon with a 30-day free return. I have no other lenses and need to return to my photography!

So what is everyone thinking should I replace the camera as well?

Thanks!

Since I can't take any photographs right now, I thought I would share a few of the photographs I am collecting. In working with my guys, I have found them to be very expressive. From happy smiles to surprise and to the sense that this isn't a good day! So, given my current frame of mind, I thought I'd share the last category. There are quite a few more that I know are better, but I was just starting to put my images into categories, and right now, I don't have it in me to find them!

Hope you enjoy!
