Really nice, as usual. Red truck matches the barn roof.

Thank you very much. And people say that I'm not color coordinated.

Jim Hall and the Chaparral truly did initiate a major shift in the top level of American road racing..

See you.

Nice capture...

Did you look in the truck? There could be a man in there waiting for his wife to finish getting ready.

Thanks for dropping by.

It's funny you mention something about a man in the truck. I did look in there and there was a man sitting behind the wheel. Thing was, he had two bullet holes in his chest. The word was that the guy was trying to court the owners daughter and the old man didn't approve....loaded him up with lead. Mountain folks have their own way of dealing with things.

Beautiful. I remember it and its successors very well. My favorite builders/drivers of that time were Jim Hall and his Chaparral and Lance Reventlow and his Scarab.

Of everyone on the forum, Jack, I would have bet big money that you would be one to know all about the car and Jim Hall. If we ever got together, our conversations would go on into the late night hours, I'm sure.

Living in Harrisonburg, just a bit north of the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway, we have driven the parkway from Roanoke several times. It makes for a lovely Sunday afternoon drive.

Your photo is lovely. Thanks for sharing.

I am wondering though what in your background led to your username of "black mamba." Do you just like dangerous snakes or do you have roots among a nomadic tribe in Saharan Africa? Just curious. --Richard

Thanks for visiting and commenting..

There is a section of the forum wherein a new member can introduce himself. In that section, I relate the story of how and why I became known as the " black mamba ". It stems from a time in the mid '60's when I was a very serious, yet non-professional, drag racer at a number of sanctioned venues in Florida and Georgia. One of my prime competitors was heard telling other competitors to watch out for me...that I was venomous, like a black mamba, to tangle with. I adopted the name and even had it painted on my car.

This is a 1965 Chaparral 2. It was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world of top-level motor racing by Jim Hall, out of Texas. It won the 1965 Sebring Race and went on to completely dominate the United States Road Racing Championship series that year. Of the 21 races held in that series, it won 16 of them. It profoundly and completely changed the landscape of top-level racing from that time forward.

It had advanced aerodynamic features, a very unique automatic transmission, and a powerful 415 HP Chevy engine that could sustain wide-open throttle as long as you wanted it to. If you are a fan of this kind of racing, I'm sure you know of the Chaparral. A lot of you folks probably don't know. I hope you find this info interesting.

What can I say, Joe. I just don't have the sense of conviction, nor do I share the vision of a successful outcome that you have.
