Ah...my home turf! Spent many years in NLON at the Submarine base. Had some fun there! Seen this lighthouse many times....make sure you tour the USS Nautilus if you are still in town!

Spoken like a true Sailor! I'm with you my friend...I never head into the forest without being armed.

Many years ago I and my family had an encounter with a Black bear and her two cubs. My wife was in front of me holding my 3 yr old sons hand and I was following holding my 5 yr old daughters hand and gripping my fly rod in the other. My two little fuzzy 6lb dogs in the lead. Out of absolutely nowhere mother bear stands on her hind legs and bellows with her paws raised at my wife and son, they were about ten feet from each other. She looked about eight feet tall and all her teeth and her claws were bared. My wife froze! I went into action, coming up behind my wife I kneed the back of her knee, causing her to go down onto her knees. At the same time I unsnapped my 357 and drew it and aimed at the bear, I was carrying hot copper jacketed hollow points. I pushed my daughter back behind me and stepped forward and at the same time very calmly told my brood to back up and slowly go up the hill to the very large stump and just be quiet and wait. The two cubs had scampered up a near by fir tree and were observing from about 50 up. They were very intense watching the drama unfold.

My wife meanwhile decided to vacate dodge and was heading back toward our truck! I called out that if there was ever a time she was going to listen and obey me that his was the time. She made some dispariging remark about how could I possibly protect them with my little pistol. I reminded her that it was the second most powerful handgun in the world and that I was capable of shooting that bears eye out if needed. She stopped and then Mother bear reappeared not twenty feet from her line of travel, we then retreated to the tree stump and just observed each other until everybody calmed down. Then we very quietly and calmly walked back out to our truck and returned to camp.

Anybody that goes out into the bears habitat and is not prepared to defend themselves should be ready to give their life for the experience.

Military retirement pay is NOT affected by the shutdown...different funding channel.

Not sure on SS but I think the same...for now anyway.

All I know is that all those folks in Congress are still getting their paychecks....funny how that works!

Thank you! They are very good boyz and our 4-legged 'kids' now that the 2 legged ones are off on their own! LOL
And thanks on the HD also....it's a nice ride and lots of fun.

My wife and I have one...it's her camera (I shoot Nikon DSLRs) and she loves it! In fact, I love it also! LOL It's full of very useable features and the picture quality is second to none. Well worth the money....you won't be disappointed. Remember though...like any other camera read the manual and get familiar with the features. Or buy one of those 3rd party manuals that explain the features and their use much clearer. We downloaded a 200+ page manual off the internet which has been very useful. Good luck!

Can I ask what technique you use to get that background? I like it and would like to use something like that myself!

Not "Wrong"...just missed the Manual part of his statement; what I wrote is absolutely correct in all others as you pointed out.
But...thanks for pointing out my oversight in not clarifying that it does not work in Manual mode...

Wrong.
The OP says he's using MANUAL. Exposure comp has no effect there except to mess up the metering.

When in Program, Aperture or Shutter priority modes, then it DOES have an impact on the exposure. That's because you're telling the internal processor to shift away from what it wants to set as an exposure by a certain amount.

You do exactly that...adjust SS or A to change your exposure settings. The EV comp is to 'fine tune' your adjustments. Moving your SS or A setting up or down one parameter is considered one 'stop'. Sometimes you just want a 1/2 stop or a 1/3 stop. This is where the EV settings come in. In many cameras you can set the EV to adjust either 1/3 or 1/2 stops. Good luck!

Have the same software and I have to convert all NEF to DNG and then they work just fine in CS5. I have LR4 and that opens all NEF files from my D600 with no issues...just CS5. A bit of a pain to convert but it works...and beats shelling out the moolah for CS6 or CC subscription right now.

Have the same speedlight and use Cowboy Studio triggers on mine with my D600 and they work like a charm. Also fire a Nikon Speedlight at the same time...no issues. For what it's worth...

Outstanding photo Brent. More even moreso, thanks for working with the youth who will someday be running this great country. Let's all hope that with the right influence and role models such as yourself, they will do a better job and have some actual morals and ethics than many of the 'leaders' we have running around today.
A friend of mine just got back from the Jamboree in W. VA and he loved it...he's a Scoutmaster himself and while he's not a shutterbug, he did have some interesting cell phone pics.
Again, thanks for working with the boys!

What are your prices on the HD's and Epson 1400 printer? I live in VA so they would have to be shipped if possible.
