I have always enjoyed photography to record memories, children, and grandchildren. With digital photography I can now use photography as a form of art. The person who posted what he envisioned vs what he drew could have been me, but his drawing was much better than anything I could create. Also like going out to explore the world and look at it from a different perspective. Today was a snow day. My challenge was to take bird portraits of the birds coming to my feeder. It was fun. Still have the card in my camera and will probably continue that project tomorrow.

I know I am in the right age group when someone mentions "pushing Tri-X to 1600!"

It was a posting from the West Coast that inspired me to take and post these photos. Also it was the first time I have posted on this site.

Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, MD just north of D.C. places some of its feeders in the landscape. Its blind allows enough concealment to obtain some good opportunities. Here are some of our winter birds and residents.
My thanks to members who have shared their photos of birds from other parts of the country and from around the world.

Very beautiful set. Liked your action photo of Goldeneye as well as the two fog photos. Your first bird is a female Common Goldeneye. Mr. Grumpy appears to be a female Greater Scaup.

That is one of the best photos of House Sparrows I have ever seen. Great shot! Only the Junco will leave at the end of winter. The remaining birds are residents.

Really like your question. I am an avid bird watcher and am trying to turn the corner form advanced beginner to an intermediate photograpaher:

Yes, Covid prevented me from all overnight trips. No spring migration photos from the Delmarva or Lake Erie, no overseas trips, no long weekend photo trips. Nevertheless my shooting has increased:
1. Joined this forum and paid some attention to the comments.
2. Changed from jpg to RAW format
3. Purchased and am learning to use a Tamron 150-600 GII lens. Experimented with it at Conowingo dam yesterday, and am also trying to figure out best way to use it for small perching birds. Had success hand holding it shooting a Ruby-crowned Kinglet at Patuxent Research Refuge
4. On a daily basis I send a photo to members of my senior citizens community often taken that day on a daily walk.
5. Have taken more photos of my family and grandchildren resulting in three photobooks where normally would have only produced 1.
6. Have been exchanging ideas with others and experimenting more with the capabilities of my camera, lenses, and software.

Despite all this activity, cannot wait to be able to travel again.

From across the nation - Maryland - it was great to both learn the birds you can find in winter and view such clear, well composed, photos. Thank you.

Talk about throwing things away. I threw away an extraneous lengthy piece of wood that came with a table. 25 years later when my daughter had the table she mentioned using a piece of wood she crafted to hold up the table's wing. Took a long time, we used the table without the wing extended for 25 years, but I finally realized what that wooden piece was for.

Thank you for a very thoughtful list. Will definitely improve my knowledge of my processing software, use my tripod more, and use more features of my camera.
This forum is as inspirational as your list.
