Shot in manual mode. First time exposed to natural window light coming in from the left. Then lowered shutter so that ambient light was underexposed. If I remember Aperture was around 11 to get flowers sharp but wall blurred. Set up a flash to the right thru a close-by white umbrella for soft diffused light and did some PS sharpening of the result and increased saturation and other PS butchery.

Trying hard to learn and share, and criticism is valuable to me, though I have a pot belly, my shoulders are broad and I can take the beating.

This topic really struck home with me. I'm a full blown rookie and have a lot of foolishness in me, so please keep that in mind. About 8 years ago I got an entry level EF-S Canon. And you must understand the way my poor mind works, (or doesn't work). I hate buttons. I can barely set an alarm clock. I don't think I took but a hundred pictures with the camera and was mostly lost.

Then about six months ago, the camera-bug bit me again. Part of me wanted to do what I did before with the idea that technology surely had changed dramatically over the last 8 years. But another part thought: What about getting a "pro" camera that is old and used and cheap?. I was comparing $5000 of 8 year old pro-camera value vs $800 of current technology midstream value .

I ended up spending $490 on Ebay and got an old Canon 1DX Mark ii N. And something clicked. Since then I found out that the DX wasn't really a full-frame (it was 1.3 sensor) and ended up getting a used Canon 1DS Mark ii body for $800. And like with the DX, the purchase was magical and something strange happened inside of me.

Anyway, six months later, I've kept track of the lenses and equipment that I have bought and the amount is greater than $6,000. And my marriage is still intact. And I'm learning massive amounts about photography and using the cameras every day. And I'm having a blast. And I've never been happier.

I still wonder what I gave up by not getting a modern camera with higher ISO abilities. Perhaps it is just the psychological thing about having what was once the very best. But I'll tell you what, those cameras with good lenses take incredible pictures. I am very satisfied with the path I followed!!!! These bodies will keep me satisfied until I can buy a mark iii for under a thousand.
