well shoot. I cleaned the 70-200 contacts with the alcohol, no luck. Any other ideas? I hate to think about what it will cost to take it in. I know I tried it on both my Nikon d90 and my Nikon d7000 with no luck

I use CRC contact cleaner on a Q-tip to clean the contacts made for electrical connections. First check to see if the lens is set at the highest aperture, if so then find a buddy with a camera that the lens will fit and see if it works on that camera. if it works your camera need fixing, otherwise the lens should be sent back for repair

with the batteries that I have used and am using in my Nikons from the D200 to the D800 I have never had a problem with the batteries retaining a full charge. The Li-ion do not need this. I charge them when they are getting low and do not run them down completey . Now the batteries do get old and will fail. My cameras tell me the life of the battery

Removing the "s" from the "https" will make it a hot link. (I already did it.)

remember the "s" makes it a secure link just copy and past into the browser. It works

Guess what I get great photos with a DX Camera and and a FX camera> It is the photographer that makes the picture not the camera. In fact there are times I will change the crop factor on my D800 from FX to DX depending on what subject I am shooting

I have always had my cameras and lens repaired and serviced by Nikon. While it is expensive(what isn't these days) I have found them prompt and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately I live a long way from Nikon and it's the postage that is the killer.

It isn't the postage but the extra insurance that make the cost more

Simply use the View NX2 disc that came with your camera. Adobe is always a couple months behind for upgrading their ACR software when it comes to new releases.

my mac pro doesn't have a disk reader, have downloaded from the nikon web site

That works too, its free.

can now download net/raw files, never used View NX2, will start to learn this software. I am also looking at lightroom, good thing I'm retired should keep me busy this weekend

LR is great but because it uses ACR cannot read the files from D7100 I am using ViewNX and a trial copy of Capture NX to view my files and am keeping the raw files on the SD cards until I can download into LR

I'm not sure I understand the difference as there are a limited number of combinations your camera will have available. Why does it matter if I'm changing my aperture in "A" mode with the command dial or changing it in "P" mode with the sub command dial. In the program mode you can change either aperture or shutter speed without lowering the camera. I'm not sure I see a big advantage to using "A" or "S" over "P" could you explain please. Thanks.

Because in A or S mode you also adjust exposure compensation giving you more control over the photo

You most likely need elements 11 for the new raw converter from Adobe. It won't work with an older version of elements.

no it doesn´t support the Nikon D7100! I tried but sorry no.

No the New Release Candidate ACR does not support the D7100 in LR 4, PS6 or PSE 11

I received an email direct from Adobe the end of February announcing the ACR 7.4 upgrade and the D7100 was definitely listed as a covered camera. I just checked the Adobe website ACR page and the D7100 has now been removed from that listing! What the hell????

I am in the same boat I use View NX and convert to 16 bit TIFF file and PP in PS. I have not deleted my Card as yet since have have not save the files. Probably will save the files on an HD then when LR can read the file import them into my regular HD where I store the files
It is a bummer

I have brain lock and can't seem to understand the 2 p's I see in the program mode.I just got a d7000.I put it in program mode and as I start to go to different settings in that mode I see a "P" in the view screen. If I turn the command dial right or left a few turns (depending on light) I then see a "P*" with the astric symbol.Haven't got a clue about the 2 P's.Now while in the "P" mode I think I'm also doing another dopey move. While in the "P" mode I am looking through the view finder then I'll pressed the depth of field button to see how dark it is compared to what I acually see with the naked eye.If it looks dark I adjust the command dial re-check till the the light through the camera seems to be about the same as my eyes see when removed from the camera, put my eye back at the view finder and shoot.I have a feeling that this is not how it's suppose to be done.I think that the "P*" is saying I'm out of wack and need to re-group.Seems the more I read and change things on the d7000 the water just keeps rising up.

OK, in P the camera sets aperture and speed to give a "correct" image for your ISO, now by turning either the command dial or the sub-command dial to change one of the settings - say aperture you want more or less depth of field, the the camera automatically will change the speed to give you the same "correct" image and P* will be displayed rather than P. Read Mastering the Nikon D7000 by Darrell Young available on Amazon. It will walk you through all the settings

I maybe should have noted that if you intend to shoot in RAW Lightroom is the better choice. One reason is that you can apply standard presets upon import so you start out with a better image. Also Lightroom enables bulk processing through Synchronization which again is particularly useful.

Elements works fine with RAW images but you have to go through Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) to get to the Editor. That is good and bad. Good because it is automatic and also because ACR gives you many of the Editing features of Lightroom. Bad because it is an extra step.

I made a preset in Lightroom the converts all my imports to DNG format and provides camera like jpeg adjustments to the RAW imports so they start out almost usable.

Just remember ACR is just about the same in LR (develop Module), PSE and PS. Just minor variations

Just bought the D7100 and have taken only a few pictures but the pictures seem sharper and the metering system seems to be more sensative to the different colors/temperatures of light. There are a few improvements over my D7000 that I know I'll appreciate like 5 shot bracketing, spot white balance, the mode lock, bigger and better LCD, and the 1.3 image area which will extend the reach of my 18-300mm lens from 27-450mm to almost 36-600mm at 17 megapixels.

I haven't found any problems yet with the camera but don't like the positioning of the tripod socket as it isn't in the middle of the body but slightly toward the back thus my l-bracket from the D7000 doesn't fit and my tripod plate extends beyond the back of the camera.

So far I'm thrilled with this new camera - overall the pictures seem sharper, brighter, more colorful and more detailed than what I shot with my D7000.

Use LR for cataloging and most of your PP the use PSE for any final PP that needs to be done.

I do 90-95% of all my PP in LR then I use PS for the last 5%
