"A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" A novel written in 1943, and later adapted to a movie. But since 1870, a tree has been growing from the tower of the courthouse in Greensburg Indiana.
Much has been written of the tree. And many jokes have been made, such as it gets its water from the clock springs. Nuff said, it is unusual.

The shoe tree is in Southern Indiana. The story goes that Boy Scouts in hiking to some of the caves in the area would toss their shoes in the tree. On my journey there I deposited an old pair of mine.

I love that mossy old thing Silverhawk, I've seen it. Have you been in rural Randolph and Pocahontas Counties? Many old Mail Pouch barns if you are interested. Along ST Rt 219.

My home is Ronceverte, WV (Greenbrier Co. - adjoins Pocahontas) and on US-219, and I've been into Pocahontas many times but not in Randolph.......but, I remember the old "Mail Pouch" barns vividly........thanks for asking....do you know "Nonet".....??? I spent a week across the road at "Lucy Baker's" farm when my friend leased it one summer a few years ago....

I took my camera with me to pick up the dog from the vet. I shot as many old barns as I could on the way home. This is a few of the better shots.

 You have a treasure trove of subjects. Thanks for sharing. Do a complete subject study on the ones that may not be around long. Please.

I would really like to take more of the wooden silo. I might try and find out who owns it. My daughter did a project when she was in 4-H where she documented the history of the neighborhood (we are rural so Neighborhood is loosely used here). She found an older man that knew who built some of the barns and he took her around and pointed out the barns that he knew about. She took pictures and wrote down as much history as she could find. Some people even let her in to photography the inside of the barns. It was quite the project and included taped interviews with some of them and many gave her pictures of houses, barns and people that settled the area. This area was first settled in the 1840's so it is fairly new.

If you're referring to the "wooden silo" I photographed, there's a road leading to the top of the "hill" (as we refer to them in WV... ) and owned by a lady whose name is "Nonet"....my friend leased the farm across the road, where the pond is shown, and we went up to visit her to view some "Geods" she had found.......the five palomino horses in the photo I uploaded to the "Horse Topic" belong to her......she has a beautiful view from her home..the second photo is an old farmhouse at the beginning of the road up to her home and the last is the front part of the barn with the silo.....
