I have read that there have been issues with many of these third party battery grips causing excessive battery drain. I have also heard that it has been addressed and recent grips will have hopefully completely addressed the issue. I just ordered a Neewer battery grip for my D750 so I am about to find out for myself.
While I am not familiar with this classic, I started out life with a 105/f2.5 Ai on an FE body. It was and is still my fondest lens I have ever owned. I am hopeful that Nikon provides us with an updated version soon! Enjoy that beauty! The DC is a nice option for portraiture work I am sure too.
