I understand some people will have issues about gun shows, but the bigger one is providing parking for people who will be drinking...and then driving later?

It's a sturdy shaft you put under your camera. Model #6785910 made by Contax. I prefer the one that stands up straight. The one that collapses in half is not reliable.

Monopods are good, combined with your own two feet you now become a tripod. The legs on my tripod will screw off to make a monopod. Back yourself up to a tree trunk and you become a tripod. :)
Whatever gives you a steady platform.

You get a new camera, WIN, anything you want! Better than a new GF who are generally a PITA.

Amazing. I cannot imagine how they did this by hand. I love it! On the other hand, people cannot believe how we built the Empire State Building.

When going south of the equator, Wikipedia recommends that you hold the camera upside down to correct the image. Hey...it must be true since it was on the net.

Or the stored image can be flipped and corrected in PP.

You know they're right. Even the toilets flow backwards down there.

How about sticking to the camera you're used to? 7.2mp is plenty for anybody. Trying to learn a new format will not help you take better pictures. Or, you can always buy a new camera when you get there. They need the money.

Which more or less confirms my previous post.

More or less ;-)

I've carried a variety of cameras in the last 60 years, even one of those little 16mm that I think was made by Minolta. Worked fine, got some good pictures with it, but it was a passing fad.

If I remember reading right, early street photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson would carry their 35mm cameras in their hand, hidden. With the little digital P&S's we have today, that should be easy.

Welcome, Don. I lived in Saranac Lake (Turtle Pond Rd) for 25 years and now spend our time in, where else but, Lake Placid, FL!

Hey good to hear from you Streetrodder! ;-) You should come back up here for the winter. Kind of clears your head ;)

And I like that car, there are a few guys here in Saranac that are seriously into building custom cars (or as they sometimes call them, road rats)

Side story: Look at Frank's avatar, it's a 25-foot cruiser. Look at my avatar. In 2010, we're headed on his boat down the Hudson River to New York City. We stop overnight at Ft. Edward. In the morning we go to this little diner for breakfast. This teenage girl and her mother sit down at a table next to us. The girl is wearing these Screaming Orange Converse Allstars. Frank and I see them at the same time, whip out our cameras and grab a picture of her shoes, at the same time. She never noticed what these two old men were doing ;) We both have the same picture...but I beat him to it! ;-)

I see photography as a trip, and as they say about the destination "getting there is half the fun." Actually, it's all the fun. People and the world are fascinating.

The best camera is the one you have with you and for me that's usually the Canon Digital Elph 12mp. I got a new Nikon D3200 and with the 70-200mm zoom and lens shade, it looks like a piece of small artillery. So it often stays home unless I have a specific project in mind.

I like the fish eye effect.

Thanks Mary. The fish eye lens is an interesting tool, I have to think ahead about how to use it. There's a lot going on in that picture that would have been lost with a regular 55mm lens.

Well okay, here's something I found in a field near my house: a chopped truck we call a "doodle bug" for woods work.
