I like the first for its soft tones and range of tones. I would have preferred a little more sharpness on one of the buds to make it jump out. For me, the photo could use more contrast, but I am a fiend for blacks and almost hang mine in crepe. Very nice experiments. Matt

Thank you Matt....I appreciate your insight and B&W knowledge! All of these images were shot at F 2.8 - wide open with that lens. I agree a sharp bud or two would make for more pop and direction. I'm not so sure I like the composition quite so much either (the centering of subject). Hindsight!
Thanks again, Matt!

Very nice photos. I like the photograph of the dog best as it seems to show more a difference in the black to white tonality.

Thank you very much, Dennis!

I always enjoyed shooting B&W (and Color for that matter..) with Twin Lens Reflex cameras. So lately, no longer having a Rolleiflex, Hasselblad, Yashica-Mat, 330 Mamiya, or such, I experimented. With my old (!) Lumix GF1. With a top mounted EVF that is articulated to mimic a waist level viewfinder. The camera and lens combination (an adapted Minolta MD 28mm F 2.8) have no Vibration Reduction or Internal Stabilization, so that adds to the experience!

Ciao!

Just something I have fun with...non-scientific lens comparisons..... This fun comparison is with a Minolta Rokkor PF 58mm F 1.4 at F 1.4 and F 5.6. The Nikon lens is a modern AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1.8G at F 1.8 and F 5.6
- the 1st two images are the Minolta 58mm: #1 at F 1.4 ... #2 at F 5.6
- the 3rd and 4th images are the Nikkor 50mm: #3 at F 1.8 and then #4 at F 5.6
These are straight out of camera (SOOC) other that downsizing for web use... Using a Nikon D7000 at ISO 100 with a FOTODIOX PRO adapter for the Minolta lenses.

Ciao!

What do you mean by "Will not replace my D3300" ? The D7k is an excellent camera. It will spank your D3300 in many ways. Not the least of which is the option to shoot lossless 12 bit raw files. Unfortunately the nature of today's technology is that resale prices are pennies on the dollar after a few years, for camera bodies. That low resale price does not mean they are low quality.

Of course in the end, what really matters is which camera likes you better.

Always nice to have a couple of bodies with the same mount (D3300 a bit limited). The sensor on the D3300 is no slouch however! I just blew up some VERY sharp 16" x 20" prints from my (now gone) D3100 that I took on vacation in June this year. 14 meg sensor on that... That camera was replaced last week by a (new to me!) D7000!!

Thanks! I plan to.

Good deal for sure! Lotta' camera for that money! Love my D7000......I also use a D7100...not much user difference in reality.

Never do anything for free - unless it's for charity, and always make and sign a contract .... even for a charity. Yes, you may get immediate family requests, but even so they should know your expenses and take care of that.
