Save your money they are not worth it. It’s a money maker for those who sell them. The story behind them is this. They are betting you'll never use it and you are betting you'll use it which in most cases never happens. Spend your for the things that you like.

Yes it is sad these days for a pioneering company to be in chapter 11. I'm not so surprised as Kodak is an English Co. they are slow to adapting to the modern world and advancing technology just like the US companies also we let Japan do it. But they do make fine cameras and the price is in reach for all of us as opposed to the Germany camera market (Leica, Voitlander, ect, ect) I for one will miss them too. I begin my photographic days back in 1952 with a contact printer and a Brownie 627 box camera and yes I still have it somewhere in a box in the garage. Oh well just my nickels worth.

I know the earthquake in Japan and the flooding in Taiwan have caused supply problems. I thought this affected both Canon and Nikon. Can anyone tell me why Nikons seem to cost $100 or more than comparable models from Canon. Right now I have a Nikon D3000 I love, but I feel it's not too late to switch to Canon. I haven't bought any extra lenses, just a flash so far. I was planning on getting 55-200mm and 50mm lenses this month, but I'm very concerned about this price difference. Here are prices I got off Amazon:

Nikon D3100: $599 Canon T3: $434.99

Nikon D5100: $796.95 Canon T2i: $629 Canon T3i: $699

Nikon lenses also seem to be more expensive....

Hello

One thing I will say is both companies make very very great cameras it's an individual choice. That said when you watch a NFL or AFL game count all the white lenses on field just my opinion...

I have the 7D and the 100-400. They currently both cost about the same ± $1700. Only problem I have ever had with the 100-400 is the zoom isn't that smooth. Camera repair guy said they are all that way.

Have you had them a while the slide can attract more dust and that cann sometimes be the problem. My friend has it and loves it though.. all preference.

Hello photogrl2

If your heart is set on Canon then go for it. I have a 7D Canon and it is a wonderful camera it is weather sealed where the 60D is not. And if you buy Canons L lenses they are also weather sealed. In the end it’s up to you, best of luck to you.....

Hi,
I have purchased a few pieces of equipment from a highly respected ebay merchant located in Hong Kong. I would much rather purchase from a US distributor, but I couldn't seem to get the same goods here. For instance, I purchased the Sony SAL-70400G lens from him, and it was more reasonable price wise than I found it from local vendors.... But the biggest selling point for me was that his lens' were made in Japan, and the same Sony lens offered here (and I searched for WAY too long) were all made in China. Same thing for the camera I'm about to get. I am about to purchase the Sony DSLR-A900, and it was the only place I can find where the camera offered is made in Japan. Without getting into politics, I will always go after equipment made in Japan over the rest of Asia. The goods I've gotten from the merchant in Hong Kong have always been factory fresh sealed "made in Japan" goods. I asked about the warrantee as I don't want to have to send something to Hong Kong for warrantee work, and he assured me this camera comes with an "International Warrantee" and is valid in most of the world, but absolutely here in the US. Has anyone ever heard of an International Warrantee?
Thank you everyone.. and thanks for being so welcoming! Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year.
Regards,
Mick

I received this Argus camera back in the early 60's and just ran across it the other day. Can anyone identify the model or tell me anything about it. I used it casually into the 70's but don't remember much else about it.

It looks like a C3 Matchmatic model I had two back in 1962. Black body and a white face one, nice 35mm camera for the time. My white C3 MatchM had a telephoto with it when I bought it.

I am new to the forum and have a questions about lens hoods. I use the lens most of the time when I am shooting with my 55 - 300 lens and have no problems at all. But when I use my 18-55 lens, I get a circular shadow around the outside of the picture.
Is it necessary to use a lens hood with such a lens?

The best thing you can do is purchase the correct lens hood for your lens, I prefer to buy the ones from the manufacture that are made for that lens however some after markets or also good too just be careful on cheap ones.

Except for polarizers, Neutral density & Ir pass filters, the effects filters from film days can be duplicated in post processing. Save your money for lenses. As for protection, use a lens cap &/or a lens hood. Think about it. Lenses are designed using elements. When you add additional glass into the equation, that changes what gets recorded. Granted, the effects of the additional glass are not always obvious, but they are there.DSLR's do not require UV filters as they effectively remove UV wavelengths

Your are so right seems like people get the idea a uv or a skylight or ND's are to be attached to their len's I believe in lens caps and lens hoods for protection. Just my opinion.
What would be the advantages to shooting with a neutral density filter? Is that something that should be left on all the time? I found a good deal on a set with a Neutral Density and a C-PL filter. Are these filters that should be in my kit?

The ND filters are only used for cutting down on the light without introducing any color. If you need to shoot at a slow shutter speed to get that blurred flowing water, for instance, then you need to get your shutter down to somewhere in half second or so. Once you have your ISO as low as it will go and your f-stop to f16 or f22 and STLL have a shutter speed of 1/15th or so, your only recourse is to slap on that ND filter to cut even more light so you can lengthen the shutter duration even more.

You NEVER leave it on the lens.
