Yeah I have heard the stories, there is a proper way to care for SD cards but the other crowd always says “naw you can wash them and drive trucks over them you can’t hurt them”. Washing them WILL hurt them by introducing water and detergent into the package. The card will fail at some point after that. And putting it back into the camera you are introducing that same moisture and detergent source into your camera. Have you ever seen what happens when you put water on electronics? It’s not pretty. Just saying...

Understand, I was not advocating such treatment. Just relaying anecdotal evidence.

Maybe off topic, but the old CF cards were pretty durable. I only had one portrait session that I had to retake due to corrupted files and nothing happened to the card! So have 12 files corrupted out of hundreds of thousands was still far less than 1/100 of one percent. A fellow photographer told me he had 4 cards in his pants pocket that went through the washer AND dryer...and it was from his wedding job the previous Saturday! Now, this brings me to this thought: Number one: WTF were the cards doing in your pocket in the first place? Mine always went into a storage case marked EXPOSED. And Number Two: is your wife new?!!? You ALWAYS check the pockets of anything going into the washer, for cripes sake! Anyway, he said the cards were fine, and no images lost. I'm not sure that I have an SD XC card I care so little about that I would care to do a test. However, any of you fine ladies or gentlemen are free to give it a test and report back :)

Thanks, everyone. Certainly, if I can be of assistance, I'll do my best.

re: BLOG LINK It seems their work is done, and the link is accessible now. I have lifetime hosting, so I know it wasn't because I hadn't paid my bill

Thanks for the heads up. I've contacted my web host. Seems they're undergoing maintenance. Would be great if they'd let you know in advance!

I'm Steve Bohne, M. Photog, Cr. I was a professional photographer for over 35 years. I have retired, but I am working on books and videos for photographers. I have a blog (that I have been challenged to keep timely) at www.photography4profit.com. In the Studio, I used RZ/67 cameras and at weddings I used Hasselblads. Then digital came along. I owned more cameras in the last 10 years I was in business than I did all the other years combined: Nikon, Sigma, Fuji, and Canon. I finally settled on Canon (which had always been my choice of 35mm camera in the film days).

I was the Art Leather/Bride Magazine "Wedding Photographer of the Year" in 1983. I have won numerous awards for my photography both nationally and internationally. My images have appeared in books, magazines, advertisements and annual reports. I have given photography lectures and workshops in about a dozen states, as well as Mexico and Canada. I always have tried to help other photographers succeed and advance their craft...yes, even my competitors. I am a lifelong resident of Michigan. Today, most of my photography is done for myself. So far I'm a lot like JD Salinger (who wrote but refused to publish for the final years of his career) but maybe I'll do an exhibit sometime.

You actually did not reply to anybody. If you were replying to a specific post you need to use quote reply so we know who you're responding to.

Mea culpa.

Thanks for that, I'm new to the board, thought it would be like facebook where if you hit reply under a post, it placed it under that thread.

No, I didn't. I replied to the poster who said he had a friend with a 40D and kit lens and he thought the images were good enough for customer use.

His problem is likely more the kit lens rather than the camera. I used a 20D until a couple of years ago (now use 60D). The images were EASILY sellable quality to portrait customers. FYI: there are MANY pro photographers who search for these cameras since they were more sturdily built than later models.

I didn't know they were discontinuing publication. I have a lifetime subscription! Back in the 1970's, they wanted to ramp up a publication similar to the original Shutterbug Magazine, but for Computers. To generate cash for the startup, they offered lifetime subscriptions to Shutterbug for $100. I took it. I guess I got my money's worth, although they "forgot" me for a year or two. Too bad. Very few of you on here will remember Shutterbug tried a twice-monthly publication schedule for a time, but it was short-lived.
