I had my shutters on two D 750’s replaced on a recall. Thought the shutter count would go to zero, but no, the shutter count is in the chip, not the shutter itself. No way to zero shutter count except by replacing the main camera computer chip. Not likely.

Thanks all. Should have mentioned: Using D 750, 300mm PF lens with 1.4 tele., also have 24 - 120mm. Been pretty good with BIF. Yes, I have no hope of the birds in detail, just silhouettes. Just don't want the moon to blow out the picture.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello, I’m going to Bosque de Apache first week of December. Hoping to get some birds flying in front of the full moon occurring while I’m there. I would welcome tips and setting suggestions.

Suggest you delete the App, and reinstall. Won't affect any photos.

Just an amateur at my grandsons soccer game. And many more. Not hard, telephoto, 1/1500, sunny day.

Same spot two summers ago, on a sunny day, a rarity.

Looks like a Gray Heron. Here's one of my pics of that bird.

Just had this issue. Drag your JPEG pic off your SD card, unedited, as shot, and upload that. Nikon has no software to determine shutter count, they believe it to be irrelevant.

5,000 shots, culled and edited to 900, and a series of 5 of those shots are my favorite from the summer. Here's another I like a lot.

Thanks,

Mike

The first is actually a chipmunk, and the second a red squirrel.

Yes, but that is a whole 'nother ball of wax. I was inside on my computer editing when it happened. We had like 90% totality, and looking outside, it was very eerie. Went out for a minute, and saw all the little eclipse shadows on the ground from the leaves on the trees. Interesting, back to editing.

While away, I found out. through this forum, even though both my D 750's and the thousands of $$$ worth of lenses are registered with Nikon, had been recalled. The day after returning, I sent one out on a Friday. It arrived there on Tuesday, and I waited for the confirming email it had arrived. Nothing. On Friday I called. I was advised it could take 5 business days for it to be put in the system. This is going on when I'm leaving in 5 weeks for the Galapagos. Kinda concerned about having my stuff for that trip. On Tuesday I receive an email from UPS I have a package scheduled for Thursday delivery from Nikon. Still no word from them. Sure enough, it arrives, crushed crummy cheapo box, no signature required, just drop it on the porch. Really, this is not what I expected from Nikon. IOpen the box, camera is wrapped in heavy bubble wrap and is intact. I get my other 750, and go through re-setting the settings. Real pain, then send my other camera off. As I sit here, it arrived there this past Friday, still no word.

I was impressed that my scratched LCD had been replaced, and it was quite spiffy clean. Went out to test, broad daylight, no birds, so shot a flower. A few shots. Went in to look at them, hoping, I don't know why, that they would blow my socks off. Absolutely pitiful. Looked like a 3 year old had shot them. Went back out, shot a few more, changed lenses, shot again, changed to a third lens, more. Went in to look at them, and better, but still not good.

Contacted Nikon, and as requested, sent in some shots. Later that afternoon, still very upset, what with the Galapagos around the corner, went out to shoot some more. I realized that I had not set my AF to AF-C, and ISO to Auto. My pictures improved dramatically. While looking at these pictures, I decided to check my shutter count, as it had been 18,000 when I sent it in. Every website told me my camera didn't have that feature. No shutter count.

Next day heard back from Nikon, after reviewing my pitiful pictures, and they advised I needed to send it in again. They went on to tell me that after they inspected it, they would let me know what the cost to repair would be. WHAT!!! I sent in a perfectly operating camera, and they want to charge me to put it back in that condition!!! Anyway, it is now working pretty good, so I call. Get another Nikon expert, and discuss this proposed charge. Also, the lack of a shutter count. He looks at the pictures I sent in, and says he cannot access the EXIF data. The pictures sent had been edited, and he wants them straight off the card. So I send one of the bad, and one of my latest, pretty good. We had a long discussion about shutter count, and the fact that Nikon does not have a program to report that, and feel it is irrelevant. But I had it before, and now it's gone!

He gets back to me, and after looking at the EXIF data, thinks my latest shot is pretty good, focus spot on, and suggests I try one of the shutter count websites with an unedited pic. Which I do. There it is, 18,000, and a few. So I get back to him, yes, it worked, but the shutter count didn't change with a new shutter. He replies, and I quote:

"Replacements of the shutter would not reset the count. This replacement is only for the shutter mechanism which does not contain any memory or shutter count information. Shutter count is located in a separate part and cannot be reset."

Oh well, at least it's working, looks good, and I got a second chance to protect my LCD. Waiting for my second to return.
